Alternator gone?

Hello just driven the car and the battery light has come on and steering is super heavy. I'm guessing the alternator has gone? But the belt is still intact.

It's an Astra 2.2 hatchback 2004 with air con. Will all alternators fit mine Zafira, Vectra etc and does anyone have one for sale?

Sounds like it that's what happened when mine went

As long as alternator is from a z22se it will fit, some are 100 amp and others 120 amp but both will work fine

You should first look, maybe You just need to replace voltage regulator not the whole alternator.

The brushes can also be replaced if you don't want to shell out for a new one if that's the problem

Yeah, thing is with second hand items, You don't know at what condition regulator and brushes are. So, You don't know how much miles left on it..

I had a quote in May from Unit Exchange http://www.unitexchange.com/ for £80 with 12 months warranty, exchange for old unit. Phone 0800 052 8312.
They send the replacement one out, you pack up old one and they collect it. Simple.

Thanks for the replies and thanks to evocarlos for the link to a saab 9-3 alternator, fitted it today and working perfectly 14.5v. It was arsehole job to do though as there is no room and had to drop the aircon and bleed front rad to move water pipe.
