just been reading about cars been recalled because of it. my cars a 2001 and does not sound the best first thing starting from cold how would i find out if the work been done.

Hi there i to was worried like you so just gave vauxhall recall centre on the following number 0118 945 8502.I just gave them my registration number.

My one was ok but interestingly there was 3 other outstanding recalls standing on it not that vauxhall were going to do the recalls for free but atleast i know about them now so well worth phoning.

i would get the vhain done asap,mine is being done at the mo and mine rattled on start up,they have found the chain guide had snapped in half and the crank pulley had broken up as well,it is lucky the chain didnt snap,as it could have at any time so im very lucky

just called that number no recall on my car but why then did the first engine chain snap :evil: but hey they said that the chain need replaced every 5 years on the car?

i checked the vaux computer and there was no mention of mine either,there was a mention of an ecu upgrade and something to do with the cd player,mine is a 2001 model registered in november 2000 and the engine no falls within the engine range

go to a vaux dealer and ask them for any outstanding reworks

my cars ok it s just on start up but the level was low it s been burning a bit and forgot to check it .how much is it if you know to charge the chain

ive asked vx this and your looking at £400 from a vx dealer :shock:

mine had a very noticable rattle on start up,im lucky the bill wont be higher,if the chain goes then you are talking about a £1500-2000 or more bill so a £400 bill is probably cheap

it s not too load just made me think taking it in at weekend and have a nice word with them about it is it a bigjob to do yourself in law s a fitter and how much is the bit s

on an astra it is a 3.5 hour job,on an vectra it is around 6-7 hours due to the a/c pipes in the way ,the chain should come with coloured links to align the timing up,BUT you wont be able to confirm the timing is correct once the engine has been turnrd over as the marks wont line up,it needs a aligning tool to confirm that the timing is correct

just a up date was told by my locol vx my car was in the recall and was given a no to call they told me it was not in the recall but would not put it in writing off to get a letter from the place i got the car saying it s not in the recall then i will have the work done at an other workshop take the wrong part and take it to trading standers

the timing chain mod is NOT and never was a recall,it was only a rework,no cars were ever called in to have the work done,if the car was serviced by a vauxhall dealer then it should have been picked up by the dealership,if your car was serviced by a non franchised dealer then you have no comeback im afraid,most problems come from people ignoring the rattle till the chain broke which is not as common as you are led to believe(this engine type is also used in a saab) aq lot of problems is either a lack of servicing and using the wrong oil,some of the cheap oils some garages use is nothing better than treacle and will soon clog the oil feed,my own car has done 110k on the original chain and oil feed nozzle so it isnt a case that it should have been done as not all cars need to be done(my car has been serviced every 20k) any rework finished last year,the chain i believe is covered for 60k/6 years but only on modified cars,unless your car is under 3 years/60k
all those of you who either take your car to a non franchised dealer are loosing out on any reworks that could save you or any future owner a lot of money or any one who services the car them self,you may be saving money now but it will cost you in the future
any car that we book in for a service that is under warranty is checked for any recalls and reworks(only saftey related recalls are the customer informed)
