Why valve pockets ?
We measured than with the stock 10:1 CR and flat pistons there is 3.5 mm (!!!) of piston to valve clearance.
Generally the clearance recommended is only 1.5 mm.
You don't need them I guess, they are only needed with 12:1 CR pistons and higher.
We are running flat pistons (Wiseco 10:1) on a 1.4mm skimmed head and thinner gasket, resulting in a 11.8:1 CR, and this is without valve pockets.
Certified at 7800 rpm for the moment 😉
If I was you, I'll directly go for 10.5:1 pistons; but if you want some margin, go for 10:1 ones, you'll be able to get a bit more CR by upgrading to a thinner gasket later
