I'm going to get in touch with the MasterFit on Monday, see if they can shed some light on the situation. Thankfully I live a mile from work, they'll have to forget about me going on call-out. :-)
The most worrying thing I've found about the chain issue is that the descriptions are few, far between and a little vague. Would it be an idea to have a collection of peoples experiences?
I already know that you should ignore the chassis number, go for the engine number.

Also the common checks are not 100% accurate, cut-outs on tensioners, link colours, etc. Only having a look is a dead cert.
Its mostly caused by the paper oil filter breaking down, need to check but K&N HP-7000 oil filter might not break down so easily. (Why didn't they just make a better filter?)
As for identifying the problem, something like: (Still not too sure what it sounds like. A little wiser but just as paranoid)
Example of Symptoms:
Noise: Clicking, Rattling, Whirring
Rate of Noise: Constant, Top-End, Bottom End, Every Chain Rotation
Location: Cam-chain side / Air box area, Top of Engine, Exhaust manifold area
Occurrence: Starting-up, Cold, Hot, Always, Accelerating, Decelerating, Idling
Other things: Sounds like a diesel, lumpy running, strange laughing demons in the engine bay?
I think the information will help ease many peoples worries.
(I have to admit to giving into the temptation of a heavy left foot. It accelerates like my old 1.8 in each gear but the gears seem to go on forever. I like it :-) )
