I finally got Ubuntu installed last night, went to bed a midnight after installing the OS and then 305 updates. I do like the look of the gnome desktop and the menu bar, more processing heavy and took ages to install where Kubuntu is a lot lighter. There are also more desktop pictures in Kubuntu. At the minute having trouble with Ubuntu, when i go to shutdown the laptop doesn't switch off where the KDE interface used to, so not sure what's different there.

I did open up Konsole but then closed it again as i did know what to do with it LOL

I've just installed the Beta release of Fedora 9 on my Desktop PC. Very easy to get working, and wireless in a lot easier as well. I'm going to be installing Fedora 8 on my Laptop, and will be upgrading that to Fedora 9 in 22 days when that's released properly.

Just downloading Fedora 8 now, From what i've seen in the screen shots it's no different to Ubuntu with the gnome interface.

That's because it's running the same Gnome Desktop. It's the back end which is slightly different. You have to install stuff using YUM, rather than apt-get. My first experience with Linux was with Fedora Core 3, so it's what I prefer, and Fedora is the Bleeding Edge technology for the Red Hat Enterprise, so anything you see now (Fedora 8/9) will more than likely be in the next release of Red Hat Enterprise (6).

so is Fedora more stable? so much to learn about Linux OS, it's difficult to tell who are the leaders and whos playing catch up. do you know of any websites that explain whats what.

It's not really more stable, because you'll find that you install more updates with Fedora than Ubuntu.

The good thing about Ubuntu is that it's designed to be a lot easier to install and get working on a Desktop computer than other Distros

have you wiped your Ubuntu install and put Fedora on instead? what you suggest that i try Fedora too?

Yeah, Ubuntu is gone, and replaced with Fedora. It's upto you mate, if you feel comfortable with Ubuntu, then stick with that. It's all down to personal preference at the end of the day
