I thought i would have a go and install Kubuntu which is the KDE interface where you installed Ubuntu which is the GNOME interface. I would just say how easy it is to use and install, installed on an old laptop and runs fine.

I even used an application to take a screen shot ;-)

Nice one mate, Ubuntu really is a very good OS. Nice and fast as well I find. I'm going to be re-installing Fedora I think on my old Laptop, and totally sacking Windows off on it, as it's a bit unstable, but I never had problems when I had linux on it.

I'm running the 64bit version of Ubuntu on my Laptop, and I also tried out the 32bit version, and the 64bit is noticibly faster

here is another screen shot, i must say that this OS installed within 30 minutes which XP would take a lot longer on this laptop. I'm loving this too.

How have you got it connected to the internet Roger? Via Ethernet or Wireless?

looks good Matt, didn't know what version to install so went for Kubuntu in the end, easy to install additional packages and everything is already installed like open office etc.

Yeah, OpenOffice is a bonus, really good Office suite IMO.

I have it connected by Ethernet but the wireless drivers have been installed so it's ready, i must say that every thing has installed without finding a driver for this and a driver for that

That's the other good thing with Ubuntu. It picked everything up for mine as well, Wireless card and the NVidia graphics card. I'll be upgrading my installation to the new version when it's released

I thought you were, because it's installed Firefox 3 Beta. Good to see it's working. Might have an install of this on my old laptop tonight then 😃

I had to install Firefox using the Adept manager as Konqueror was installed by default

Ah, they are shipping that by default with Ubuntu. It's great having just about every possible application you could need at your fingertips, and free as well

if you do install it let me know which you find the best and easiest to use, i really like this but might install Ubuntu in the next couple of days to see which one i like

I've never really liked the KDE interface, and some people hate the Gnome one. It's really down to personal preference. On Fedora/CentOS, you can install both desktop interfaces, and select which one to run from the Log On screen.

Have you had a play with the Konsole yet?

Most of the stuff I do at work is command line based through the Konsole.

Dunno, I think it's because when I started using Linux, I installed Gnome, and just became more familiar with it. I like how the menu bar is at the top of the screen, and the ICONS used.
