Injectors?

I'm a bit confused on if I should be looking into fitting bigger injectors, and if so which ones notsure.gif

I know Vocky went for the SC injectors, but somebody also mentioned the 2.4 injectors? Thorney
also seems to be fitting bigger injectors with the 2.4 manifolds - any idea which ones they are using?

The cars current spec is: -

2.4 Inlet
Ported & polished TB manifold
Piper cams
Janspeed exhaust system
Pre-cat removed
lightened flywheel
Balance shaft deletion
Modified airbox & courtenay panel filter
EGR removed
Exhaust Manifold - SOON!

I'm getting some SC injectors. I think that is what Vocky has used but I'm not too sure what Thorney is using. If you are planning on getting some I found the best thing to do is get them secon=d hand from the US. The ones I just bought have about 3000 miles on them and are costing about £30 shipped.

You can try these two forums, http://www.cobaltss.com/forums/index.php and http://www.cobaltss.net/forums/index.php Just stick a wanted add up and you should get quite a few responses. Make sure they use USPS (cost me $12 from Florida) as everything else costs loads.

Yep, thats how I got mine. The cobalt SS owners replace the stock SC injectors with their stage one upgrade to bigger injectors and a smaller supercharger pulley.You can either stick a wanted post on the cobalt forums or search american ebay for "cobalt ss take off parts" which is how they advertise the old injectors and bits.

sounds interesting. I do still have some questions:

will any car (z22se) benefit from bigger injectors, or is it only usefull after some other mods?
are these easy to install?
will you need a ecu remap to benefit or do they add power even without a remap?

I don't think injectors are a benefit/improvement as such. They just cap the power of the car when you reach a certain level of tune. The general thoughts are they are suitable upto 200bhp - beyond that you need to upgrade the injectors to cope with the fueling.

Yes - easy to install.

The SC injectors will need a remap to work. Other injectors possibly might work without a remap!?

It seems the ECU has knowledge on what kind of injectors are used, it "knows" the capacity. So you will probably have to have a change in the ECU's code (remap) to get them to work properly. Although I'm still thinking about fitting them and setting the fuel trims to way low and see what happens 🙂

Well, the injectors are in and everything seems better than I expected. Actually fitting them was fairly straight forward apart from two of them refusing to come out of the engine. Some large grips and a bit of leverage soon sorted thm out 🙂

Then came the moment to start it up and surprisingly it fired up and settled down to a nice idle immediately. I left it running whilst varying the throttle and apart from sounding a little lumpy it all seems well and appears to run fine throughout the rev range. I haven't driven it yet but that will happen tomorrow, hopefully it will be OK.

I'm debating trying the 2.4 tb to see if the sc injectors have made any difference but to be honest I can't see it making much odds.

So your running the sc injectors on the standard map? I didnt realise we could do that? My sc injectors are sat under the stairs in a box still. I thought it would throw up a fault or run too rich or something....anyone?

Well done mate. I look forward to your thoughts after driving it. It will also be interesting to see how the engine reacts if you fit the 2.4 T/B.

mine were the same, BUT it died at 5000rpm when driving it :cry:

the tms remap sorted it 😃

I must admit that I'm not expecting it to be all roses once it's on the road. My car isn't on a standard map but has a TMS stage 3. My biggest concern is running lean so I will have to get it to TMS to have an off the shelf 'Vocky' map (patent pending) 😉

Guess what, they didn't 🙁 Sounds exactly the same as yours did. The start up is now rather eratic and when driving if you apply full throttle at any speed it just starts to judder. So it looks like a remap is needed. I haven't bothered with the 2.4 tb as it will just make things worse.

I would wait until TMS have sorted the various maps and then get it remapped by them.

maybe Courtenay will also offer some maps too.

but either company should be able to sort the map soon 🙂
