Sorry this is becoming embarrassing 🙁

Bearing cap 11 on the intake cam the one on the edge with m8 bolts wont release - the bolts come out okay and i followed the spiral pattern but spotted too late that it wasnt lifting i have put the bearing caps back on but it isnt lifting could the siilicone sealant be holding it on? should i force it ?

they do stick, don't worry it shouldn't damage anything.

I usually tap it with a rubber hammer, or use something to help break the seal.

when you come to refit the (M6 /10mm head) cam bearing caps remember they are only 10Nm or 7 ft lb, so not a lot !!

I mangaged to stretch them the first time I refitted them on my vectra, so had to order a new set which took two weeks to arrive :roll:

when i looked on there website last week they were £204 inc vat and £12 p+p must admit im gutted as well as was gonna get mine out next weekend but over £300 is to much for me i think 🙁

bought a pair of standard ones from ebay today for £60. Will get them converted next month if I can manage to keep some money left over

if the AC is run from one of the cam shafts, and the vx220 doesn't have AC, are the cam shafts still the same, or is one shorter?
e.g. will a vectra's shafts fit my vx220?

I have vectra cams in my vx220 🙂

the only difference is the vectra needs a hex drive for the power steering pump, this is a hex shaped hole in the end of the inlet cam, makes no difference whether it's there or not on any other car 🙂

Help!!!!

Everything was going well, cams came out cams have come back from piper..........I had a day off and thought i would tackle putting them back in on my own ( my mate helped by holding the cams still last time) anyway cable tied up a spanner and attempted to torque up the crank bolts.........

Cable tie snapped and ive lost the timing. i really dont have a clue now how to get it back cryb..

I would remove the cams once more, you don't want to bend any valves, then remove the crank bolt - this bolt is very tight :roll:

then remove the lower timing chain cover, refit the cams, reset the timing and refit the removed stuff.

very easy cheers..

where abouts are you, maybe someone local can help dunno..

Thanks Vocky doesnt sound too bad - Im in Woking if any helpful soul who's done this before is around and wouldnt mind giving up a couple of hours to laugh at my ineptitude

Just for the hard of learning (me )..........

I presume removing lower timing chain cover means an oil drain?

How easily can it be reached on a VX, what else do i need to remove? ( if it is in the TIS is there a reference?)

last one at the moment, I presume this is then just a case of lining all three timing chain marks up once the cover is removed ?

Just a quick add - if any vauxhall mechanics in the area fancy some paid mooonlighting i would be happy to engage the help

you don't need to drain the oil, but you will need to remove the off side wheel arch liner to access the bolts etc.

you need to remove the alternator drive belt
undo the crank bolt, you need to have someone pressing the brake, car if fifth gear and slowly and gently apply pressure to the bolt until it loosens, DO NOT attempt to apply brute force as it will end in tears / loss of skin !
best to use a long bar and a correct fitting socket

it's all nuts and bolts, not hard at all
