I need help - is alloy cleaner corrosive ?

I think I've used too much alloy wheel cleaner :shock:

it's attacking the alloy wheels on my vx220 :?

You big donkey! I was worried for you then for a minute!

Whilst i'm here.............YES! Alloy wheel cleaner is corrosive. It contains Hydrochloric Acid. If left on the wheel too long it will attack the paintwork as also if used on a hot wheel or used in direct sunlight the heat will speed up the corrosive process.

I always use hot water with Meguires NXT Shampoo or some other 'safe' wheel cleaning product.

that's why I always bugger up the finish on my wheels, they're usually still warm from driving :roll:

I never use alloy wheel cleaner on mine...would rather get my hands a bit dirtier than wreck me wheels.....

They must have been so hot that they disintegrated!

Also, once I have cleaned my wheels, I always wax them and then use AutoGlym Alloy Wheel Seal on them.

Crickey that was strong wheel cleaner LOL, at least you have saved a few lbs mate LOL. I presume all the wheels are having a re-furb

Also once wheels are kept clean and sealed there should be no reason really to use acidic wheel cleaner / any wheel cleaner really.

For stubburn brake dust i just use wheel brushes and fairy liquid and then re-seal.

The two best wheel wax's / sealents i have used are.

Turtle Wax nano wheel wax & poorboys wheel Seal.

I have never used the AG wheel stuff i may give it ago.
