Problem fitting 2.4 manifold

Having a slight problem fitting this manifold in that the alternator is in the way. It is only by a few mm however we cannot get it to fit. We think that it may have to be moved by meanns of a new bracket and it would require a small piece to be taken out the new manifold. Any thoughts Vocky ? dunno..

Have a look back thru' the 2.4 inlet thread a few pages in and it shows what you have to do regarding the altenator. You have to remove the black cover and modify it and the suppressor. There are pictures and an explanation of what to do.

We have done this. Problem is that the casing of the alternator is striking the manifold and try as we might it will not fit. As i said i think we will have to move the position of alternator and all that entails. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem.

Is it possible that Vauxhall may have fitted a different size/type alternator to this car ? dunno..

try loosening the four bolts and push the alternator away from the manifold, there is a little play in it.

Vocky would you mind checking what type of alternator is on your car. Perhaps a serial number from it. We have done the pulling and stuff are we are still short j a few mm. All i can think of is that the alternator may be of a different size. We have already encountered a problem with the ECU. Believe it or not mine`s was held on by 2 tamper proof carbon graphite fixings and 2 sheared head fixings. It took nearly 2 hour to get that of ! So i'm thinking maybe a different size alternator !!

Vocky our alternator has a twin pulley and a single pulley on the crank. Is that the same as your`s.

100 or 120A alternator and even different ones in each type... and that's only for the vx220

Dario, Does your alternator look like the one in Vockys pic above? Mine looks Identical to it, a Bosh one I think, and as I have electric windows and heated seats in my Astra G i'm thinking it could be the 120 Amp unit?

Did your alternator come from the VX220 or the Vectra Vocky? Its just a very ealry and rough theory, but perhaps the vx's are fitted with the 100Amp alternator as they have less to power, and these are a diffrent design, i.e. deeper? Dunno?

Both have what looks like a double pulley :?

the inlet manifold is still a tight fit, but once the holes are lined up it bolts up ok, it will touch the alternator - but once the bolts are in it can be moved away slightly 🙂

Is the part of the alternator which has a clash not "just" an unimportant part of the body? In other words, can't you just grind it off?

I have mentioned before that i am not carrying out the work my car. The work is being carried out by my friend who is a mechanic with some 40 years experience. As his garage is a distance away i have seen the car since last week however i'm in regular contact with him. As i said the manifold will not fit because of the alternator. We have now resigned ourselves to having to modify the manifold ( we will have cut some 15mm out and make good the hole). Will try and take some photos. For the record it is a Bosch alternator that own my car. 🙁

that's the original problem I had, which was fixed by altering the alternator by removing the plastic end plate dunno..

I believe he has Neil. With a bit of luck we should have it sorted for next week. The same chap will be fitting the manifold to and two VXs.It will be interesting to note if they have the same problems. For the record my car is a July 02 reg.

Just to check

The suppressor comes with a black and a red wire soldered on how do i wire this in?

Red to alternator connection and black to cable ?

or the other way round? :?

the suppressor can be wired either way round, it's just a capacitor 🙂
