My speedster project

Ok guys, time has come !

First, here are the upgrades already done to my VX220/Speedster... all in the chassis 😉
Nitrons 1-way
TD Race 1.2
Yoko A048R LTS
Uprated adjustable ARB
Nylatrons wishbones SB
Eliseparts alu belled discs
Carbone Lorraine brake pads
Unibal toelink kit

And here is what is planned to my engine; starting from next week !

Wiseco 10:1 pistons (+ cylinder head skimmed to reach 11.5:1 CR)
Eagle rods
Schrick camshaft kit
GM Adjustable cam pulleys
Balanced crankshaft
SiValves waisted stem valves
Some headwork of course
2.4 manifold
2.4 TB
2.0 SC injectors
balance shafts deletion
Light flywheel (Steel one from Motoconcept)
2Bular 2.5" full system (exhaust line + manifold)

All controled by a Skynam Sybele Challenger4+ standalone ECU

After day one

Cylinder head removed
Gone for measuring and work on it for Schrick kit fitting

try and remember to do all the little jobs whilst the clam is off 🙂

like fitting uprated engine mounts, check side engine mounts, fit oil catch tank etc

Yep of course vocky, I think I'll have to make a list of all kind of maintenance I have to do too (regreasing unibal toe-links, fitting the nylatrons at rear wishbones...).

I will go with lightening some things in the engine compartiment too, like the water tank fixing, the fuel vapor depolution system...

Second day of work :

Done via the "engine on the floor" method.
Simplier than lifting up the engine, especially when you don't have the good tools, but leaves a few marks on the subframe dunno..

According to my best friend, who is an F1 engineer, the loss in power would be anectodical (1 hp at max)

What do you think is the max CR you can have without the need for another ECU or a piggyback?

I think they will be Wiseco ones again.

They can do pistons for the eco up to silly CR, Karo from carcustoms told me he already ordered some 13.5:1 pistons from them.
I think I'd go for 12 or 12.5:1...
Anything higher than the stock CR would need another ECU, I heard that even with the 11:1 wossner items some had knock problems :?

that's good news, I was thinking the same, very little loss in power 🙂

I assume that the neutral shafts sold by GM would also create very limited power loss.
Yes, they are heavier than idler gear but the mass is close to the axle .
Am i correct here ??

Also, what is a DLC treatment and what is the weight of stock rods ?

it's not so much the weight of the neutral balancer shafts, just the mass of them turning dunno..

I have not seen any rolling road tests of the power gains, it would be nice to compare the two versions :roll:

Yes and if i remember correctly an important point when you try to accelerate a rotating mass is the distance of the mass to the center of rotation. This is directly linked to the inertia of the system.
An infinite mass located exactly at the center of rotation would spin effortlessly.

It has also to do something with price.
Neutral balance shafts from GM are not cheap...
The idler gear conversion can be made cheap (If you can.)

But I still don't like the idle-gear conversion because of possible wear by the load/momentum put on this single bearing by the chain tension. A short chain version would be so nice and simple.

there is hardly any load, just a chain running around 🙂

a guy in the usa has done over 25,000 miles and reports no issues 🙂
