Ordering bits from the states...

I only registered on this forum to find out about replacing my cam chain on my VX but now I've been reading a bit I might have started something expensive...

I'm considering doing a Vocky style engine build and wondering how much it would cost me on the basis that bits could be ordered from the USA at present exchange rates and sent over here without paying any carriage, import tax or added charges.

If I can do this which bits would I need and how much would they cost?

I'm thinking...

2.4 manifold
Cams
Injectors
Flywheel

Any other bits?

wasted stem valves are $15 each

2.4 manifold is $140

310cc injectors are $40 each

2.4 tb is $130

Tsudo 4-2-1 exhaust manifold $150

cams - cheaper to get piper cams 🙂

flywheel - probably cheaper to get a courtenay item dunno..

Just looked up todays exchange rate. The maninfold and T/B comes to $270. That works out at £134 today!! Bonkers! :shock:

So its just the postage which is the bugger. :roll:

you can double the price for shipping and then add 20% customs :roll:

that's why it's cheaper to ship parts together cheers..

Do you think that I should take the plunge and order those injectors at the same time as I order the manifold and T/B? Will the 68mm T/B be okay without the bigger injectors or would it be best to have them?

The standard injectors are maxed out at 200 bhp.

you do have some good mods already, if you are going to replace the exhaust manifold as well you will probably need them dunno..

I reckon i'm going to stay with the standard for now then. Just a manifold & T/B for me then.

That looks identical to the Courtenay flywheel.

Yep and honestly I am quite convinced it is the same one.

Each one i see this item in a French shop, or Italian (the steel one, not the Fidanza), it says Made in Germany, so I am not surprised if it is cheaper at Moto Concept

How many of those do I need? Roughly totalling it all up it looks to be about £600....

What about the head?

Does the Tsudo exhaust manifold fit straight on? Similar to the TMS one? I've not heard much about that one before.

As for the heads, is it more effective to have your own head ported or buy another?

The Tsudo is the new name for the weapon r manifold so requires boot modification which is why I'm still looking at doing my own, but After taking a look at the weekend I'm thinking I need to dismantal the back end to get it measured up properly. Rummer has it Jim at 2Bular is planning a manifold though.

As for heads the danger with buying a 2nd hand one is if it's cracked, I'm tempted to try to get a SAAB one myself.

weapon R needs a lot of mods too, see vockys vx220 project or my flange thread,
needs at least another 80quids worth of parts (2 flexis and 3 stainless 90s) and some work to get everything lined up

the Patriot head or GM head are the best available, both are new heads too 🙂
