HELP!!!

I have just went out to go a drive and my key isn't working it won't even turn at all anyone ever had this problem or know what could be causing this as I said the key is working when I press the button to open or lock it but it doesn't seem to want to turn at all?
Any help will be greatly appreciated...

Alan do you mean the key wont turn in the ignition or in the door?? Or do you mean it just wont start?

when i put the key in the egnition it wont turn ! and when i turn the wheel it is locked ! been trying for ages to turn the key in the egnition but wont budge ! do you know wot it could be?
the weird thing is i can still open and lock the doors but the drivers window is down slightly?

Does you key sometimes have trouble going into the barrel? Mine has and it's the first pin, it jams up and stops my key going in.

Insert key, rock left and right the wheel so it knocks and at same time try and turn the key.

Been trying that mate but nothing is happening the key wouldn't turn even before the steering lock went on???

Is key bent or partially or wholly chipped?
My one key is used and abused the chrome plating is coming off and a little tricky at times.
I wouldnt force the key too much, ive seen quite a few busted keys in ignition barrel much to the owners delight.

Also try- Put key in barrel, push in towards column and try and turn. Vice vereas as well if that dont work.

Ive had that a couple of times 🙁 its quite scary the first time luckily it was at the house and i had time to check for solutions online cheers..

Alan have you tried pulling the barrel out? try using a small hook

Na Jon I've not pulled the barrel out yet mate that's gonna have to be my next step I'll try tomorrow and what do you mean try using a small hook? What do I do with it mate???

Doesnt the key have to be in and turned to the 1 or 2 position to remove the barrel...

When i had problems with the lock it turned out the only way to fix it was by sticking a small electrical probe into the slot and easing the barrel out slightly.

Got it sprayed WD-40 in the barrell and around the side and it seems to have worked (touch wood) gonna go and get some oil and pour a bit in and put the key in and out see if it unseises whatever pin or pins that are jamming...

I've just came back from taking the car a run I had reset the ECU aswell last night but now the box in the speedo that gives the mileage etc the light has went on it if you can understand what I mean anyone got any ideas what could of caused this mibbe spraying the WD-40 into the barrell or mibbe knocked something out when I had the surround off???

Sounds like the ignition barrel is f*cked. You do need to turn the key to position 1 to remove the barrel too and you will have to remove the steering column shroud to gain access to the barrel locking pin which needs to be depressed to allow removal.

Also, disconnect the battery too as shorting out any wiring around that area could cause problems like the airbag going off in the worst case senario??
