Help, cant get my wheel off!

I was supposed to be replacing my brakes today, but i cant even get the 1st wheel off, the alloys stuck to the hub, ive been chewing on at it for hours now.

Currently trying to lever it off with the longest bit of wood i could find, ill have to start felling trees if i need something longer.

Its had a bath in penetrating oil, kicked opposing edges of the wheel, lowered the car and rocked it from side to side with the bolts in loose, and my latest attempt at levering has failed, any suggestions???

I have never ever seen a brake disc that badly worn AND someone has fitted new pads to it :evil:

don't forget to clean the centre of the wheel and then spread a little copper grease on it 🙂

WTF is that packing out the brake pad?? Never in all my time have I seen anything like that!!

As for the wheel sticking, I had that once. I phoned Vauxhall and asked them how to remove the wheel, I think they thought I was having a laugh but I told them it was stuck. I got put thru' to the workshop and the chap told me to 'Hit it f**kin 'ard mate from the inside with a mallet!!'

It worked.

PMSL at those brakes though!! TBH its not funny. Maybe worth taking your photos down to the garage as evidence and asking them what they want to do?

must admit ive never ever seen disks like that before :shock:

other way is to loosen the bolts slightly and drive back and forth on the drive braking hard

is that a crisp packet in the caliper ?

Failed some bad looking discs in work,but they take the biscuit....

Ive had wheels stuck on before, but never had to abuse the wheel so much to get them off.

The crap on the back of the pad is the peel off layer to protect the adhesive, no idea why the fitter left it on dunno..

I knew the disc was bad, just not that bad lol
it was one of the faults i was picking at to get the price down, the other was knocking in the steering, turns out today all it was, was the top bolt on the passenger drop link wasnt tight enough 🙂

Thats my first attempt at changing brakes, i took most of the caliper paint off trying to get that stupid spring back on, beright, wheels have to come off again because i snapped the brake wear sensor too :lol:

That looks much better. Those pad wear sensors should come with a warning. They're a pain in the ass. Most people break them off. I think they are about £11 each.

Got mine cable tied up on the strut....bloody things are a nightmare...

lol yeah mines taped to the strut now, it just snapped, the cables are still intact so check control isnt complaining.

There was only one on the passenger side, is that correct? no wiring there at all on the drivers side.

By the look of those discs I would hazard a guess that they were run metal to metal at some stage. The surface of the disc shows all the signs of friction fusion trying to take place.

Still can't beleive my eyes!

The Vec c only has the one pad wear sensor as well (front left) funny thing is C's tend to wear the rears first.

The sensor can wait for a while, im more concerned with tarting the paint on the front of the calipers up 8)

Thats the worst disc, not sure the cars covered enough mileage to wear a set of pads out yet dunno..
Although vaux wouldnt leave the pad backing on. Or i hope not!

Im replacing the rear discs and pads tomorrow hopefully, looks a little trickier though.

You'll do the rear discs and pads in no time, they're really easy.

If the fronts were in that condition though you may need to wind the handbrake shoes right in to get the disc off (sometimes a little 'lip' forms inside the drum stopping them coming off easily)

also helps to loosen the handbrake cable - underneath the handbrake gaitor inside the car 🙂

I got sidetracked today so didnt get the brakes done, did get round to sealing the tailgate wiring loom, and remove the rear wheels, both stuck on, this last one looked like it left half the wheel behind :lol:

All cleaned up and copper greased so, ready for rear brake renewal next time :razz:

that car doesnt look like the wheels have ever been off , when you are doing the back brakes it will take you a few goes to be able to back the adjuster off once you have the hole lined up and have done it a few times it will be really easy.

i reckon you will need new discs pads and handbrake shoes !
