clutch and air con problem

hi all. and wonder if anyone can help.

I have a 2.2 Vectra 2001 and the clutch is starting to go. I have had various of quotes and everyone is saying it a pig of a job and am getting prices from £600 to £950 wow. That also includes the slave cylinder which i have been told i should have done as well. Can anyone advise me here and the best place to go etc etc.

Also i have a air con problem and had someone look at it and there is power going to the air con clutch but he said there are other relays somewhere as when he fiddles with the replay in the driver foot well he said he heard clicking as there might be a faulty relay all something somewhere.

please please help

A new clutch and slave cylinder job will cost you somewhere in the region of £550 to £600. It is a nightmare job as the engine subframe has to be dropped. It is quite labour intensive.

hi thanks for letting me know and at least am on the right track then :-)

Any ideas on the aircon. I got it topped up and checked and was ok untill a few days later.

I had a guy check it out and he reckons there is another replay behind the dash as when he pulled the aircon replay in and out from the driver footwell fuse box it was clicking behind the dash somewhere.

I have also discovered that there is a fuse box in the engine area just above the battery but showed him again and still said behind the dash :-( then he wanted to charge me £40.00 for him to put his computer to find the fault but he said it might and might not work :-( so i never bothered.

there is another relay for the air con in the box that sits by the battery its a green one. not sure if there is another behind the dash.

the aircon relays are next to the battery, none behind the dash that I'm aware off :roll:

there could be a leak and it's empty again
or
the pressure sensor or a relay is duff

Just as a note, a week and a bit ago, my slave cylinder went. To replace it it is a gearbox out job. My cltch didnt actually go, but it would have been silly not to replace the clutch whilst it was apart. A new slave cylinder and clutch came to the total with labout £521 at a very popular and reliable garage. Hope you sort it out soon. I think your quote of up to £950 is overpriced !!

been looking on epc and found the part numbers. would either of these stop the air con from working when there is gas in the system??

yes they would, they stop the aircon from working if there's not enough pressure or the sensor is faulty.

there are also the pressure relay, compressor relay, aircon relay and compressor clutch which could be faulty too :roll:

hi again, i have found the fuse box under the bonnet and here is the pic attached.
2 purple and one black.

Are these the pressure relay, compressor relay, aircon relay??? Also have found power going to the compressor clutch.

the air con relay is in the fuse box under the dash

there is a compressor clutch relay where number 21 on that diagram is

can't find a pressure relay. can find a pressure sensor and a pressure switch but no relay notsure.gif

Haynes manual calls it a pressure relay :roll:

in the above picture you can see a green dot by a pipe, any idea which pipe that is?? thats got a pressure sensor in it numbered 4

When i had a pipe go on mine,they faxed over all the above pics,,,u need to choose from the diagram which is fitted to ure car...from memory theres a pressure sensor sat on the pipe in front of the radiator,

air con problem

Hi all. I have found the other relay box :-)

Here is a pic of the box but has loads of relays there. Any idea which one is for the air con? Also is there anyway of bypassing it or changing with another relay just to try it out?

Not to sure if i said before but had someone look at the and there is power going to the air con clutch.

Where is the best place to go once i have found which relay has gone?

p.s. also for the update, got a quote for £500 for the clutch and slave, so when that goes all sorted. Now i need to sort the aircon before the HOT weather comes :-)

according to autodata the relay second from bottom is the air con compressor clutch relay
