hi guys have a problem here, i brought a astra coupe 4 days ago all has been perfect with it, a really smooth drive but this morning i fired her up and it sounded like a diesel under the bonnet and not a healthy one at that if im being honest my stomach just dropped thinking i have been sold a melon. its a coupe 2.2 51 on a X
i have done alot of reading and have come to the conclusion this is timing chain area related noise. but im too scared to drive it anywere incase it snaps
would love to get a new kit fitted by benny but i cant get my car to him incase it snaps im located in bedfordshire junction 11 of M1 can anyone recomend anyone local to me who wont rob me blind?

Well my veccy has passed another MOT but hitting 97 k miles now so i've pm'd the main man to book in for getting my chain done. Nice road trip down it'll be as well from fife to wolverhamton 😃 😃

Just a quick update and some feedback for Benny, he did my VX220 today in under 3 hours, really happy with the job and can't recommend the guy enough!

Yeah mate. I have looked at loads of cars from corsa's to newer vectra and signums and others and really could have done with somethng more economical as i am covering 60 miles a day to and from work. But i have thought whats the point of saving £100 a month on furel to just pay that or more in finance. Also mine being an 04 the spec is ok and wiring present to retrofit fair bit. It is going to cost me a bit as i need lot of wee bits doing with suspension and getting the chain done but still worth it i reckon. Also i'm a bit sad as its now over 6 years i've had the car and would be hard to get rid now. As per my post on veccy c i am going to get cycling part of the journey to work when possible to cut running costs so should be good.

I do need to get braver and start learning to do more mechnical stuff but looking to keep her on the road and start enjoying again.

Woohoo booked in with Benny for 7th may for my chain. Cant wait. Good timing too as i'll just about be hitting the 100k mark then so will be worth the road trip. Vx garage had quoted me £890 + vat to do it so well worth the trip down from fife. 😃 🙂 :thumbup:

Lot cheaper than VX.
I'm managing 38 MPG at the moment is this unheard of?

Yup - Benny did mine last weekend - smashing chap.

Not measured the mpg on mine since getting the chains done, but shortly beforehand did a trip down the M6 & M5 and got a smidgin under 40mpg out of it. Not bad when it's got 94k on the clock. When it was newer I did a Liverpool to London trip and got 46mpg - which I didn't believe until I double checked the petrol receipts.

just had me chain done by benny on friday, really knows his stuff, while changing the chain found probs with the balance chain 2 which he sorted for me as well, all in under 3hours recommend 2 anyone 2 save your engine from the scrap heap top bloke cheers mate ........

had my timing chain replaced and cams fitted by benny on friday. results are absolutely brilliant! very helpful and deffo knows his stuff... would deffo use him again, cheers mate

Just got a vectra 2.2 sri for a song. Not much history with it but no rattles etc. Should I get the chains done or wait for a rattle? Its on 97000. I'm in weston super mare, anyone near me willing to do the job?

If it's on 97k, I'd definitely get it done. Might be worth posting a separate thread asking if someone is willing to do it, as it will get more views.
