to give a bit of depth to my worry, i have worked at a few car manufactures over the years including the latest which was engineering support the XF manufacture both pre and post launch at jag last year. the launch was in march but we had production running since the previous year knocking up about 10,000 ready for launch and dealers etc, all ready to be registered that march.

The relevance of this is that i believe in the vx memo, it stated all the engines produced from some point in march 02 onwards were not effected, but as mine was already out on the road during that same month following the release of the 02 plate (im assuming this was also when the vec 'c' first released?), whats the chances that the engine was made prior to the beginning of that month, yet alone when the change was made during the month?

I would contact benny via pm and ask him as I am sure he mentioned to me that a few Vectra C's has the old style chain gear

you have got a 50/50 chance of the old jet and i would lean towards it not haveing it as the engines were made in the states and shipped so would have taken a while to have got to elsmeare or ruselhime wich ever plant made ya car it is a long way from the states plus if your car was reg in march 02 it would have been built before then and i belive the plants were makeing them from the end of 2001 ........

Usually just a case of going to him mate. The garage he works out of is in Wolverhampton mate.

Benny, could you give us your latest prices (with and without balance chain)? It's been a while since I came to see you (when we didnt do my chain) and I think it might need doing now.

ok mate no problem ..... £260 all in for a z22se ..this is for a main chain kit fitted and a oil and filter change ........ just add £110 for the balance chain kit ....but as i say i dont advise it to be done unless found faulty ..cheers benny

Had my chain changed today by Benny.

My Vectra C has done 102k and wasn't sure whether the chain had been done by previous owner, but still wanted it doing for peace of mind. Got to him nice and early, he took the side off and showed me that the tensioner had ciesed which was making the chain slack, even though the chain and oil jet when taken out was the new style - no pressure to change from him at all but I asked him to go ahead as at least it was all new.

This guy knows his stuff and makes it look so easy! Honest and friendly and he even give me a bit of advice on the car, and I even got a cup of tea - i'd already filled myself with double bacon and egg mcmuffin - thankyou Penn Road McDonalds 🙂

Car seems to now run a lot quieter and smoother than before, and I'm not crapping myself everytime I take it out.

Highly recommended to anyone looking at getting their chain done too! Cheers Benny!

Made the trek up to see Benny today.

Top top lad, my chain and oil jet have been replaced so no need to have it done again. He could have easily not told me and just changed it anyway, but such is his honesty he did.

Gave me a few pointers on maintenance and what was wrong with my manifold as well.

Can't recommend him highly enough, well worth the 200 mile round trip (for peace of mind)

Had my chain done this morning by Benny took him only 2 1/2 hours!

He gave me some tips on maintence and advised on what I should do with my windscreen washer problem can't stress enough how good he is at his job talks you through everything that he's doing and all at a fraction of the price vx would charge.

Thanks again Benny all running smooth and that little bit of timing has increased the pickup no end.

to be fair mate u were very lucky how bad that chain was and beeing a vec c very shocking ..........
