Hi,
I have a Vectra C sri 2.2. Reg'd 2003. It has now covered 56k and has regular oil changes (every 8k). Should the cam chain on these engines be changed as a matter of course? I keep hearing that the 2.2 suffered problems but most people say this was in the Vectra B? Could someone clarify if mine was affected by any problem please?

your chain is the later spec, but will still need replacing at 100k

There's quite a few C on the C forum showing up with Chain problems now, some snapped some jumping teeth, the worst thing is that loads of them seam to happening to the YH as well as the SE.

i think i need my cam chaim replaced as i have a slight tapping noise on start up only lasts a split second i own a vectra c

More thanks going to benny today after replacing my timing chain on the weekend. Great service and would highly recommend. On striping the engine down the existing chain looked ok but as i was there we decided it best to change it anyway. It has cured a rattle when starting from cold although we didnt see any evidence of chain wear. Benny kindly told me why my EML light had been on for a couple of weeks as well.

I agree with all that has been said with regard to Benny. He replaced the chain on my 04 Zafira back in June and he is an absolute top bloke. He clearly knows the engine inside out and had the whole job done in a few hours, most of the time whilst I stood watching in awed fascination at his skills. Thr engine now runs more smoothly than it has done since I bought the thing a few years ago. Oh yes, and all at a price hugely less than my local Vauxhall dealer was quoting.

Well worth the 200 mile round trip.

Just wanted to say I went to see Benny last year (after I had just bought my car) to get my chain done, and he wouldn't do it!

Reason being, he pointed out to me that the head looked brand new as well as the chain, he said it would be pointless doing it. I thought that was really honest of him, as he could have just done the job and taken my money, or even not done the job but charged me anyway. Having had a new chain anyway, I never would have known.

Hi.
Just bought a 2002 2.2 sri vec C (78k on clock but not had timing done according to service book) and i believe it was registed late march 02. Havent picked it up yet as not ready till mid next week but anyone confirm if that reg date is likely to be a dodgy chain and jet. Also what is the current price benny charges for replacing the chain?

The Vec C should be fine but its is coming upto the time for changing. Benny has an excellent reputation and is VERY fair in his pricing.

The bit that worries me is the post i not long read from someone with a 02 reg 2.2 vec 'c' sri which had the chain snap at around 56k. also found they had the smaller jet fitted. this model and reg date is same as mine so a bit worried now
