hope there's not too much damage in the combustion area, bent valves a certain, valve guides and piston damage - who knows dunno..

I found a strange snapped of small piece of metal in the oil at the bottom of the pic near the cog wheel too, no idea where that came from,
going to try to get the head off next weekend, but theres a lot of stuff to disconnect, never mind getting the ecu off!

this bit, its about 1cm square - i was wrong its actually plastic, think its part of the tensioner ?

just looks like a wiring clip, or sensor clip which has been broken off

been in there a while then!, discoloured from being in oil for a while

I think it's part of the timing chain guide nearest the water pump

it should hold the plastic guide to the metal part of the guide (the white coloured guide in the pic)

yeah apears to be the top anit slap plastic ....seems your chain must have been loose for a while

Engine never made any excessive noise at startup or running, may have just snapped off in its last moments, still i wont know till i get it stripped - need time off work - itching to find out now and get started!

it's not very difficult, just time consuming, especially with a vx220 (everything seems to take five times as long on my vx compared to my vec)

but basically:

remove inlet manifold asembly
remove exhaust manifold
remove head
