Im a new 2.2 owner, help please

Ive recently purchased my Vectra 2.2 150 SRI (Early 2002)
And ive read alot about the cam chain problem on some models,
Can anyone please advise me as to all the upgrades needed possible faults to this engine, so i can get them sorted as soon as possible.

Go into the Cam Chains section for masses of info on the cam chain kit part numbers and other members experiences. I had my cam chain and balance shaft chain changed for the new type just yesterday.

as Johnny said i'd defiantely look into getting your chain done as yours will almost definatly have the smaller style oil jet fitted unless its already been done. I have also recently had both of my chains replaced for peace of mind and i had the smaller type jet fitted.

another common fault is one of the air con pipe breaking, there was a recall on this and a bracket was fitted to the pipe at the far left corner of the engine.

Do you knowhow much it would cast to get them cam changed? and where to go to get the work done, his car did have a service history when i bought it, which has been lost since, are there any tell tale signs that this work might have been done already?

depends if you are going to change both chains. if you are going to do both chains you are looking at about £250 just for parts.

where abouts do you live?

There aren't really any tell tell signs to look for on the cam chain other than a rattly noise from the chain area.

I was told 3 times by Vauxhall that my car wasn't in the affected range yet it clearly was.

only the cam chain kit needs replacing, costs £100 + fitting

you can also change the balancer chain, but not essential

Im in the manchester area, and there isn't any noise comig from the area, infact its probably the quietest engine ive ever heard.

i didn't have any rattling from mine before i had it changed but had it done anyway as i can't afford the big repair bill if it did go.

i was told twice by vx that my car wasn't affected with the smaller oil jet which turned out to be bull sh*t.

if you don't have any proof of it being done i'd get it done for peace of mind.

I had mine replaced last weekend by benny. Only getting sporadic noises on start up at 36,000 but it was that or risk a 4 figure sum replacing a lunched engine. 🙁

If you are considering keeping the vehicle for any length of time its a must. Just look at all the chain snap stories on this forum if you have any doubts.

I agree also it is a quiet engine and apart from this the car has performed without fault.

yeah mine was really REALLY quiet too and now i still dont get a real obvious loud rattling noise on startup, but if i get out of the car and listen it does sound like a diesel, just not that loud. Cam at 38, 000 miles atm and well i think my chain is guna die soon

So how much would it cost to get this problem fixed, inc. fitting?
and what other problems does this engine suffer from

Benny on here will supply and fit the timing chain for £220 (i think) and is in the west midlands.

Cam chain kit is roughly £100 and fitting will be around the same sort of price if done by one of the chaps on this site. You'd be looking at around £600+ if done by your local Vauxhall stealer.
