My vx220 project

a few updates since the last time...

the weaponR boot cutout has now been replaced with a standard section of boot, this is removable for better access, another boot carpet finishes it off and it looks standard in the boot now 😃

the engine shown in this thread failed due to a dodgy valve stem so it was replaced with a saab 2.2 engine which was mapped by webcon and required larger injectors, power was just under 200hp at the wheels (guesstimate of between 230-250 at the fly)

I now have harnesses fitted, a hardtop was purchased and I have also fitted a rollbar cover with the aerial removed, got to keep the weight down :LOL:

Wow a very nice update, what valve failed? What did it do?

one of the exhaust valves sheared at the lower collet groove after just 750 miles, end result was it scratched the bore, put a hole in the piston, damaged a valve seat and of course cracked the valve guide.

Thus the Saab 2.2 was born 😃

So the second engine fitted to your VX also broke??

first engine - standard
second engine - rebuilt with steel rods, lightened flywheel, balancer delete and a big valve head with cams
third engine - rebored and fitted with wiseco pistons and a saab head - this suffered a snapped valve
fourth engine - is the saab 2.2

first gearbox - original F23
second gearbox - M32 vectra
third gearbox - M32 astra vxr
fourth gerabox - M32 corsa vxr
fifth gearbox - M32 alfa prodrive

so four engines and five gearboxes :silent:

engine three lasted 750 miles and cost £1500 to replace 🙁

You guys are unlucky. My missus likes my car and actually forbade me selling it when I was annoyed with it. only tax I get is a holiday at bonus time. 😃
