That was my fault, I accidentally deleted a load of files on the server while trying to back the forum up. Anything uploaded from 16th November - 10th December will need to be re-uploaded.

sorry about this thread going stone cold... plans change blah, blah :lol:

I will continue the 'rebuild' when I strip my vx220 engine down, I will be retaining the vx220 bottom end and will just be upgrading it as I would the bottom end I striped down in this thread 🙂

I will be fitting the balancer idler gears and keep the mechanical water pump, fit the eagle rods, blank off the oil supply to the rear balancer bearings and fit a lightened flywheel 😃

So just a small update until then......... my eagle rods arrived this morning 😃

set of four = total cost £185 delivered :shock:

Im sticking with mechanical pump now, seems more reliable even if it uses a chain to drive it....

I read the reply on vx site about the water pump, confirms what I read elsewhere, for a trackday car it's fine - not too good for around town notsure.gif

As for the flywheel, not looked into them fully yet, but courtenay's does look nice, but whichever is cheapest dunno..

bought them from ebay.com, took about 10 days to arrive - which is usual from the usa

i ordered my pistons and rods on the 19th jan, from a company on ebay, just checking to see if you used the same supplier,
i emailed them 4 times and never got a response - until about 10mins ago... was starting to get a bit panicky,:shock: (i guess you do when youve laid a bit of cash down......) just waiting on them before i send to the engine place,
bloke seems ok tho.

I found a supplier in scotland for wiseco...£390 the set :shock:

even in usa they are $430 + delivery etc......£325ish

I really can't justify buying a set, although they would be nice drool.gif

yeah pistons were $430 dollars, thought that was pretty reasonable got them shipped with the rods so overall postage was 70$, should hopefully mean a nice strong bottom end 😃

cant justify them either but thought what the hell heh

wossner in germany used to have 11.3:1 or 11.8:1 (don't remember exactly) pistons for the Z22SE, but the apparently disappear of their catalog 🙁

The next job would be to refit the crankshaft, remember to use new bolts and sealant between the block and crankshaft cradle.

next I modified the balancer shaft rear bearings to stop the oil supply

two ways of doing this,
first is to fit some collets to blank the oil supply,
second method, which I've tried, is to push the bearings 7-8mm further into the block, this should blank off the oil supply

I then fitted my new idler gears and refitted the water pump chain

I used the original vx220 chain as there was little wear, plus it only has the water pump to turn 🙂

next job replace conrods, very easy, just remove a clip and slide the little end out, swap conrod and refit

you should also clean the piston ring gaps and the piston rings, you could replace the rings if you want - but quite expensive

next job is to refit the pistons and torque the new conrod bolts as per Eagle setting = 28lbs - use the supplied lubricant on the threads and under the bolthead

then fit the flywheel, remember to either use new bolts or threadlocker on the originals, I fitted a courtenay lightened jobby 😃

I re-used the original clutch as theres nothing wrong with it 😃

wouldnt it have been worth it to upgrade to a sports clutch as your making improvments to the bhp and torque notsure.gif

if I have problems with the clutch, I will simply change it dunno..

no labour costs for DIY 😃

plus the vx220 is about half the weight of a vectra, so the clutch has an easy life 🙂
