Sirair2007 Broken tensioner on intake side. Chain jumped out of timing. And i drove the car 40 miles like this with the engine rattling and knocking.
Sirair2007 Update. Head is off. No aparent damage to them pistons. It seems they did not meet. Some carbon deposits.
Sirair2007 Now taking in consideration the damage to the cam bearings the head can be reconditioned or it s just better to get one form a working car?
figo126 better to be safe than sorry ,, while its off get it changed, not seen anything about reconditioned head caps ,
Sirair2007 Ok. Now i just need to source one and send it to be checked skimed etc. After that i am going to change the timing chains, the water pump and the oil seal on crank along the way. Anything else i need to change while the top end is in bits?
figo126 change valve guides, seals, relap valves in , pressure test , skim , if you are keeping car might has well go full hog , and do everything ,if you want a bit more power could port , polish exhaust ports, balance shaft delete,
Sirair2007 The car will replace my curent vectra diesel. I do not want to spend to much on her cause i already have a faster weekend car but needs to be a good daily driver. Originally car was bought for parts but she looks too good to be striped down and sold in bits. I did not mention that she s a black convertable with red ragtop and unmarked red leather interior.
figo126 try autovaux for your parts, genuine gm parts, and will post them for you , its advised to buy genuine chain kits, try ebay that's where I got mine , don't forget the balance chain are the same from z22yh, z20net, b207. got mine from saabtech on ebay £225 for genuine kits,
Sirair2007 Checked. Parts ordered. Now i am trying to source a complete head from a running engine so i only need to skim the thing and trow it in.
Sirair2007 Ok. Change of plans. Got a complete engine sensors everything. Is hard to pull out the old one and throw in the other one? I can get acces to an engine hoist.
Sirair2007 And another issue. The engine is fitted with egr blanking plates. If i run it without an egr cheater other than light on the dashboard could be other issues?
vocky engine is quite easy to swap over, much easier than swapping a head. change the chains whilst the engine is out of the car, much easier.
Sirair2007 Ok. I changed the whole engine in the end. New chains and water pump. Egr left hanging around there. Now i have two new issues. First the car has a lumpy idle and the dash board lights dim and second the flexi pipe with the precat is broken and blowing. The car starts idling bad when is warm. If you stop her and start her back up when it s warm sometimes it stalls. I do not have experience with opels but my other car heat s up in like 5 minutes and it s a 3200 cm3 engine. Maybe faulty temp sensor?
Sirair2007 Tomorrow i ll take an in depth look and put the tester on it. Funny enough i changed the engine and never opened the bonnet again. Just drove the thing for 3 weeks and see if it brakes down big time. What is the charging voltage at idle?
