I can't believe all this hassle because I dropped a bolt in to the sump. What clown put the sump bolt above the sub frame and didn't think it would be a could idea to have an access hole.
Anyway how do I get the sump off, bolts are out, dip stick is still in but not attached to anything else.I need to just pull this out There is not enough clearance, is lifting the engine up a bit enough to clear it, if so how do I do that i have been jacking under the sump but I can't do that because I'm trying to take the sump off, I have acrane should I lift it up with that a bit

jack the engine up with a block of wood and off the a/c pump just watch ya fingers 🙂

OK thanks I did think about doing it there but wasn't sure. Can't thank everyone enough who has helped out with advice

but for info this is what Mr Haynes says for sump removal:

Where fitted, disconnect the wiring for the oil level sensor.
Remove the lower mounting bolt for the air conditioning compressor. Slacken (do not remove) the upper two mounting bolts and use a block of wood (or similar) to wedge the compressor away from the sump. **Note: **Take care not to damage the bolts or alloy mounting point when inserting the wedge. Do not use excessive force.
Slacken and remove the bolts securing the sump flange to the transmission housing.
Progressively slacken and remove the bolts securing the sump to the base of the cylinder block lower casing (there is one long bolt at the transmission end of the sump). To break the sump joint it may be necessary to cut the silicone sealer using a suitable knife, taking care not to damage any surfaces. Lower the sump away from the engine.
While the sump is removed , take the opportunity to check the the oil pump pick-up/strainer for signs of clogging or splitting. **Note: **The pick-up/strainer is riveted in position

the pick up is bolted 🙂 and the cover is bolted to but some earlier cars have rivets holding the cover on

So I snapped my dip stick tube, what else can go wrong anyway I got the broken bit out and put a bung in for now. How many liters of oil does it take as I won't be able to check it

does the dip stick still have a rim on it ?
you can clean the end and the hole then use instant gasket to seal it the bolt on the inlet will hold it in place

Yeah that's about the only lucky thing that has happened lol.
Anyway thanks to everyone, shes alive and running better than ever. Although my management light was on and I thought what did I forget to plug back but I just couldn't see it there are so many pipes, cables etc couldn't see the trees for the woods, plugged my computer in it was mass air flow, easy sorted plugged it back it
Very handy those computers sometimes

Oh by the way I decided to use my engine crane to lift the engine while doing the sump
I kind of like my fingers they are handy
