cylinder head/cam removal help plz

My veccy 2.2 Sri 150 b (which likes to drink oil) has developed a problem
Wednesday night on my way home it appeared a cylinder went down, I had breakdown recovery so rang them, he couldn't diagnose any new faults with his tool & suggested it could be the coil pack (I told him I'd removed the egr valve & fitted a cheater) which I changed the next day with no difference.
I did pull the plugs and the 2nd (from cam chain side) was completely soaked in oil?
Nothing went pop or bang and it smelt of burning oil on tickover, I'm hoping it's just a stem seal, and thats where my problem starts. I'm a competent diy mechanic but I've never worked with chains?
Obviously I need to remove the cams, do I need to remove the whole timing chain or can I just release the tension? And how Lol . I know the tensioner is "on the back" but I have no clue where to look?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated, she's my daily and I'm grounded without her

Ok, so I got the head off and discover a chipped valve?
As mentioned I need her running asap, so my question is can i get away with changing just the one broken valve?

if that one is all the problem is then yes
but personally i would like to take the 4 out of that cylinder and check it out

How is it chipped? Has it hit the piston?

Wheres the missing piece?

If it has hit the piston wouldnt it crack the valve guide?

Iv never seen a valve just fall apart.

That is a good point & idk at the moment but everything looks ok at first check? Maybe it blew out the exhaust port but I will check thoroughly b4 I put her back together

Saying that, if it has hit the piston how is it not bent?

N how is it only that 1.

Hmmm, only thing I can think of is that it has had chain issues at some point and its been repaired but missed that valve?
So it was maybe cracked and has eventually snapped off? Im not sure.

And just thinking again that piece should be in your exhaust rattling cos it couldnt get past the cat?

My dad is under the impression it's burnt away? I see his point & it would explain the excessive oil consumption and smoking when on a run with revs over 4000.
I've been to collect a head gasket set & have valves on order for collection this afternoon while I source a valve compressor

Once u get it out give it a good clean on that edge

You will see if its snapped or burnt away.

If it is burnt away.... again how? Strange

Yes it is odd but it has had the oil problem since I've owned it, there's no ecotec sticker on the coil pack, idk, maybe it had a problem with that cylinder/plug at some point?
I'll do all the necessary checks and clean up before reassembly but I do need her running again. I've already done too much to let her go now, lol

Well with replacing valves if I was you if you I would reseat all of them and replace all valve stem seals aswell. Im sure you know what your doing.

I have done head work before a long time ago and with getting all the stem seals in the kit I planned on replacing them all & giving them a quick grind. All I need to find now is a valve spring compressor?
Time to ring round, lol

I did it all on my corsa, like u say while your there it makes sence just for that peace of mind.
N u get the stem seals in the kit so why not.

I did it buy hand the old fashioned way.
16 valves at 112000 miles it wasnt quick hahaha.

i got 1 like this for the corsa, not sure if it would be big enough for the z22 but i only paid about £18 for it last christmas
