Agree with what you said above Adam, but in the case of the GM oils, the 10w40 is semi synthetic whereas the 5w30 is fully synthetic, which holds its molecular structure and keeps its protection properties longer.
The 10w40 properties will 'breakdown' quicker and will therefore require changing sooner. I believe that GM dealers now recommend the 5w30 as standard fill for both the Z22SE & Z22YH (for standard road use).
I have used 5w30 since I've had mine and never had an issue with it, and it has helped keep the engine very clean too.
