Engine dies and then comes back?

Fuel filter is Lhs in front of rear wheel. Just remember to de-pressurise the system before you remove it otherwise you will get a face full of petrol like I did when I changed mine lol :mad: :eek:

Hi,

Well, ive narrowed my problem down to the fuelling i think. If im on about a quarter of a tank or lower then the car runs crap , sometimes dies and then back on but when i put fuel in and its on half or over then it runs fine. Can this be the fuel filter or the in tank fuel filter as i would have thought it would do it regardless of fuel level? Could it be the pump as that would surely do it regardless of fuel level too?

Id say the filter on the bottom of the pump in the tank, probably covered in shit. Have you had any redex in the tank? It might break the crap up in the tank.

I havent tried redex actually so will get some tonight on the way back from work. SO the filter on the bottom of the tank is cleanable then?

Theres like a mesh sock on the end of the pipe(probably) once you take it out the tank it should be easy enough to clean

Use petrol.

Cheers, will be doing this , this weekend. I fitted the EGR cheater last night too , made a big difference in the way the engine revs but the engine management light come on last night. Didn't come on after i fitted it so can only imagine a wire has come loose?

It maybe something else unrelated, best to get a obd2 reader on it.

Or it could be that its just getting used to the new cheater so might take a few miles(im not sure as im still running a egr valve).

If u havnt got a obd2 or op-com there dirt cheap now I got 1 off ebay for £15 delivered and gives codes and etc. Also got op-com off here for about 25ish.

Yeah I've just ordered a Bluetooth obd2 scanner off eBay and just bought the "torque pro" android app as it's got brilliant reviews. What's the benefit of the op com over what I've just bought?

Opcom does a lot more but is vauxhall specific. The Bluetooth one just reads and clears codes

You can delete stuff and program stuff off the ecu I beleive(iv only used mine once and that was just to clear a code). But I have heard great things about it

mesh filter on the bottom of the pump, comes out with the pump, should clean off with a quick swill in clean petrol.
also clean bottom of the tank out, check for rust while your at it. prone to rust around filler connection to tank and on top of tank.

How would I go about cleaning the bottom of the tank out? Syphon the fuel out, let it dry and hoover?

pretty much yes. the low point is below the pump so any dirt will collect there.

Mine was a burnt out spark plug and coil pack. All serviced with new coil pack and the problem has gone away.

I was thinking coil initially but cant see why it would be worse when the fuel is low?

Yeah, ive got a fuel filter but with work , havent had chance to fit it yet. Will do it this weekend.

Personally don't think it's fuel filter just because it happens when it's low on fuel, all fuel pumps suck from the bottom of the tank whether they are full or not, however, it could be a perforated pick up tube (not sure whether it's steel or not) and that would explain low fuel issues, other than that it will be a sensor somewhere but would expect that to throw a light up on the dash. Hope it helps.
