Engine dies and then comes back?

Hi,

When driving my Vectra B 2.2 16v the odd time the engine will almost die and then come back on. I have noticed it sometimes shakes a bit when im idling , especially from cold. Any ideas?

Sounds like you got a fuelling problem or your egr valve is faulty

Yeah, i think im going to clean the air filter pipes , maf sensor, throttle body,replace the plugs, fuel filter, air filter, oil filter and change the oil first , then see if it changes.

To be honest i always do a little service on a car when i buy it anyway so would have done the oil, oil filter, fuel filter, oil and plugs even if there was no problems.

Just make sure you use s good quality oil

Ive used Mobil1 Fully Synthetic in all of my last cars for as long as i can remember and its always been brilliant. That should be ok on this engine shouldnt it?

Damn! Mine is 0W40. I bought a load of it off ebay when i had a Mercedes that took 8ltrs per oil change

Thats probably where im going wrong I use 10/40 in mine, iv done mine 3 times now.

I think the best oil iv used so far was the titan supasynth. Not sure on the castrol gtx.

Have you noticed any adverse effects of using 10w40?

Not the first 2 times, I used titan supasyth last two times, but I have noticed a little rattle on cold start just before oil gets there since putting the gtx in. So might dump it out n get something better @[deleted] recommends GM 10W40 I think its 10/40 anyway(if im wrong im sure he will tell us hahaha) im sure he will even tell you where to get it from at the right price.

So you think 0W40 should be ok? Its Mobil1 fully synthetic which isnt a cheap make

I dont think so, evocarlos has tried everything in his. I think he had something similar in for about a day n swapped it back out. I think vauxhall recommend 5/30 or 10/40

A vectrs B will be a SE.

Always used 5/30 or 10/40 geniune Vauxhall, prefer 10/40 as do most.

Ive just ordered all the service parts off eurocarparts so will ring tomorrow morning and add some 10w40 oil to it. 5ltrs should be enough shouldnt it?

Its done it 5 times this morning on the way to work. Noticed it does it mainly when I'm light on the throttle or engine on overrun. Still sound like egr?
