Id say. But before you do, id just drop the aux belt off and do a cold start just to check its not the alternator.

Have you got a multimeter? Just to check the voltage when its running. You could be lucky.

I really hope it's not both chains. Not worth replacing them. Hopefully I get lucky

why is it not worth replacing them? i,d take changing them over being stuck on the side of the road any day 🙂

it does sound that the main chain is long and flapping while the tensioner is waiting for oil
it also sounds like you have a snapped manifold stud

The car only cost me £350 so it's not worth putting silly money into. I could break it and make my money back.

then dont 🙂 a working car is a working car i paid £200 for my 2nd coupe but i would still fit chains to it as it would then last another 5years 🙂

It's a fair point but replacing the chain is gonna cost more than the car is worth almost? Bit annoying cause I actually quite like the car

I know someone who does chains cheap, n for the money its alot of work. Well worth getting someone who knows what there doing.

its not as expensive as they think 🙂
me personally would fix the car rather than see another one get scrapped
but then thats what i do 🙂
