Rattle on cold start

Hi guys new to the world of the 2.2 engine so need some advice. Picked up a 52 plate sri the other day and on cold start there is a small rattle that lasts about 2 seconds then shuts up. Anything to be worried about? Smart in the book saying chain was replaced less than 10,000 ago. Thanks in advance

I would say chain
If a cheap chain kit was used they don't last
How often has oil changes been done

Do a video, it could be something else, mines making a funny noise on cold starts and my chains were done less than 3000 miles ago and havnt pin pointed the fault yet.

Oil changes are done every 10,000 or before. It's due another one next month. Full service history to back it up.

Ok that makes a little sense cause once the car has its lights turned on if you move the steering wheel whilst sat on the spot the lights inside the car dim a little

My vectra had the alternator bearing causing a rattle, I spent 350 doing the chains then started it back up and the noise was still there so bolted a 18quid secondhand alternator on and job done. But now I have a strange rattle on cold starts. Need to go back inside and investigate.

Fingers crossed it's something simple like a altenator. I don't fancy spending crazy money and doing the chain again

my car also does this occasionally on (very) cold starts and only lasts a few seconds. i'm not worried as it isn't loud. i just put it down to the fact that as the oil had drained to the sump and on first start up it hasn't fully circulated the engine and lubed the chain up sufficiently.

Yeah That would be ideal if it was. Car runs and sounds fine after a few seconds. No rattle after the initial first few seconds

Best to get a video of the cold start. Gwt filming before starting.

rattle at start up is normally the main chain tensioner waiting for oil pressure sometimes goes with an oil change but better if removed stripped and cleaned manually proper procedure must be followed before removal
