Big problem with the bolt hole for tensioner.

When l rang him to enquire to see if he could do it. He quoted £220 l thought that was a fair price but when the top guide bolthole was stripped he charge £50 to repair and £17.50 for 3 1/2 litres of coolant then he added the vat which in total came to £345. I don't think l be spend much more on it. Its cost me thousands over the years.

yeh im thinking the same at the minute. might break it for spares. looks like i need either a water or oil pump

That's why it's best to learn to do it yourself, save the labour costs at least .
Or else you end up paying ten times the cost of the car on labour over the years. I don't think you will ever find a poor mechanic

Going through exactly the same experience with my car.
Top bolt for the inlet side tensioner came loose and sheared. It had elongated the hole.
I was told its a common problem on the 2.2 engines.
Anyone looking to buy a 2.2 walk away if no proof chains have been done.
You could end paying more for the repair than you did for the car!!

or just pay someone like me and get the chains done 🙂 preventative maintenance

repair bolts can be made / purchased for the event of the top front guide bolt sharing off

This is the same on my old engine, I noticed once I had took the head off.
