new to z22se,need a lil help

Hi everyone im new to the site. I have owned quite a few vx now but at moment looking to purchase a 2.2 astra coupe edition and just need a little help please.
Well the car is a 2001 2.2 with only 66292 on the clock it has some service history chasiss no 006844 and wanted to know if this coupe was affected by the timing chain problem and if so will vx change it to the new modified chain kit?
I took it for a nice long test drive and it drove lovely and pulled real well with no noises from engine bay at all. I took a pal with me who used to work as a motor mechanic who now is an engineer in the army and he found the engine to be faultless but just a lil worried about the chain issue.
Also I read that if I serviced it real often with using fully sythnetic oil that the chain should be fine, is this correct?

hello and welcome
my advice is change the oil quarterly with gm branded 10/40 oil
doubt vauxhall will touch the car now its 13 years old you could call them and ask (they will say "" you car is not in the affected range"")
the chains should be changed at 100k or 10 years whichever occurs 1st but best to get them done around the 70k mark if they have not already been done i have seen some bad cases around that milage 🙂

if it makes a noise at start up then goes after 6 seconds or you can hear the noise of the chains under the drivers wheel arch then it might be worth thinking about getting the chains done for peace of mind
failing that regular oil and filter changes are the best advice

Thank for the advice pal, there is no noises from the chain. I really have my heart set on this car as its immaculate and at a great price. I've read loads of threads about how to change the chain and if I cant get it done cheap will have a go myself it need to as im not bad with a spanner have changed quite a few bits apart from head gasket and timing chains before.
My pal is back at base again now so will have to do it on my own but if needed would you help me out if I get stuck? Thanks.

New to the site also, when I got my 51 plate cabby I noticed in the paperwork that the head had to be stripped due to chain failing, I did find the vin numbers that were affected but can't find them, I would say yours would have been sorted because it would have gone by now (was a problem with the oil feeder not been large enough and clogging up) you could check with vx to see if it was done by them or for peace of mind change chains and oil feeder, hope this info helps

If I was you I would get on to matt order the bits and change both chains completely mine has done 82k and has had the chains replaced with gm parts at some point in it's life and still last weekend whilst @[deleted] was changing them again the balance chain tensioner was broken and it's less than 3 years old as 3 years ago my van was a diesel lol

Beleive it or not as soon as i joined and had a look at the cam chain sections i could tell that evocarlos was the man i needed to speak to, and i did and he helped answer a few questions and when i want chain changed will be contacting him.

yeh i met him at PVS last year n had a good laugh with him and everyone who was on our stand, then a few months before christmas he insisted on coming up to mine to do my timing chains, i noticed that about other forums, on corsa-c.co.uk there best answer to any question is "get an haynes manual" but not on here everyone will do there best to help, talk to MATT aswell about parts, there brilliant quality and matt sorts all the parts you will need so dont have to worry about getting the wrong parts.(y)(y)

Yeah had a word with Matt about timing chain and was real helpful so i now know where to go for my parts. I really cant wait to pick up my 2.2 coupe on Tuesday really looking foward to it. Haynes manual lol yeah i forgot to mention that one.:LOL:

wile your there you should do the balancing chain kit aswell, i think carl does a deal if hes fitting both at the same time, and i think matt will do a deal if u order the balancing and timing chain at the same time aswell(but dont hold me to it) but its worth an ask, dont forget when your doing the chains you will loose your oil so its a good time to drop the oil and filter and a air filter and plugs, then you know your good for a wile

Yeah Carl has given me a great price on timing and balance chain and got price off Matt for timing chain but didnt ask about balancing one but will do when i have funds to get it sorted. You been a great help Dave and really appreciate your time pal.
