The van.. Hmm

Hi everyone I haven't been about for a while been working solid to save up for the winter as my work slows a lot.

I'm really not sure what to do with my van I either need to fully rebuild the 2.2 engine as it's using a lot of oil and it needs both chains etc
or I want to get a Saab 9-3 car and make the van a turbo, but my question it how much would a full engine rebuild cost as a posed to changing it to a Saab b204 and do I even need to but the whole saab car?
I can do the work mostly myself but with abit of my dads help and will have my renault going soon so the van can be off road for a while.

I like the 2.2 but to supercharge
it is a lot of money after I've spent money sorting my engine out when I could get a whole Saab car for less a grand recondition that and have 50bhp more from standard.

It's not going to happen over night but I need to decide what to do and start getting the stuff I need. I haven't had much experience of having turbo cars so would be nice to do that but I do like the 2.2 engine.

what about the B207 saab turbo set up 😃

Tbh the whole Saab thing is quite new to me I've always liked vauxhall turbos but don't quite understand the difference between the Saab b204 and z20net. Is the b207 the later engine?
Around 03 onwards?

b207 is the z20net and basically the same as a z22se with a few differences

so you can bolt the B207 to your current gearbox, as they share the same bolt pattern and starter motor position, plus fuel and exhaust are in the same place, so quite an easy conversion 😃

Ahh I see I would prefer the b207 for sure In that case. Does that mean the b207 would share some of the wiring looms etc and I would much prefer the f28 box to the Saab which I'm guessing is more like the f20 the red top engine used?

wiring is similar, but you would need the saab ecu etc

Yeah that makes sense.. So the saab b207 engine is it better to look for the engine n parts or the whole car? And what year/ model Saab has this engine?

I have a good question though I've got a knocking which I can think can only be the top mounts (easy fix) however there seems to be a good cm gap between the donut on the top and the shock turret which makes be think when I go over a bump and load is taken off they knock on the turret.
I've checked everything and it seems right the top mounts don't even look that bad does anyone have any ideas cos I'm baffled.. It's currently got fk coilovers and standard top mounts. I know on renaults sometimes the m12 that hold the spring down needs to be a slim one which I checked on the van and it's a slim one so it can't be that. I'm really confused and getting frustrated with this knocking lol

arb links for the knockng 🙂 the top mount it is normal for it to be sitting 10-15mm away from the top when the weight is on the ground when you lift the car it moves down to the bottom

i have the exact same knock mate. when i done the shocks and spring before xmas i replaced the top mounts and the arb drop link but yet it still knocks like mad over bumps and when accelerating. The only other thing i can think of is the arb bush thats worn?

I've brought new track rod ends as there worn and I have arb drop links which I'll be doing on Tuesday but there's no play in the adjustable ones fitted at all well I can't feel any.

That's a relief ive not seen a gap between the top mount before I naturally thought that would be the cause of the knocking but there isn't any marks from it so I did wonder.

Hmm I haven't done the top mounts yet but I might not for the time being the only other thing it can be Is the arb bushes there's not really anything else other than driveshafts but I've only just rebuilt mine

Everyday I've been watching my top mounts and I really don't think there right one looks to be around 10 15mm above the turret the other is about an inch..
