did you use an 18mm socket ?

only way i can think of is use an 18mm spanner the open end on 2 of the flats

next way would be to take the cam out and mount the bolt in a vice and use the spanner on the cam shaft to undo it

No the guide I was going off said 19mm!!! o_O

I do not have an 18mm socket for some reason so will have to stop for tonight. Hopefully it is not too chewed.

If the shaft has to come out is that hard??

what guide are you working form ? i would like to see if there any other really unhelpful info in it 🙂

fingers crossed you can get the 18mm to lock on 🙂

the hardest part for the inlet cam is the end cap at the egr valve end the bearing caps are just m6 bolts and only require 9nm when tighten them back up

My own fault really I should have clocked how slack the fit was. I found a 12 side 18mm and it fit nicely so quite hopeful for the 6 side.

I have not been held up anyway as after taking the balancer chain off I realised I had left the chain kits at home lol.

I do fit chains but the vx220 is a right ball ake
did you get to the bit where you remove the oil pump cover yet ?

you want to try mine then carl? less than half the space of a vx220! engine out job some unfortunately that means balancer shafts will have to be removed, exhaust manifold will have to be swapped for a tullet and throttle bodies may have to go on. 🙁

I have got evrything off except the inlet sprocke lol. Once that off time for new chains.

Just got hold of an 18mm six side. Hard to find! Called screwfix, halfords, ecp, machine mart. Only had 12 side.

I have got the clam off the vx so there is plenty of access.

Mechanical activites will resume this afternoon.

Once the oil squirter is off it is time to fit new chains yes? Is the crank still set okay?

Oh and I have not bothered removing the oil pump gasket is that okay? I have got a new one here but rather leave old one in if no harm?

the gasket should be changed, I can see corrosion on it. Don't forget to change the oil jet - the black thing above the crank in the lower picture

Thanks Vocky will do. I have got all the balance chain and that on. There's been a power cut in the industrial estate so had to stop early with no light.

Will put pic up for checking later when I'm home before torquing and pulling the pin.

I had this bit left over in the new kit that obviously is for the crank but did not pull one out the engine, no reference to it in the guides either???!?!?

Right I have got everything in place except the tensioner. I cannot work out how to make it pop out like the old one, it looks totally different? See last pic..
