so heres the start to the new engine build 🙂
received a BNIB saab B207R to build up for my car
some pics 🙂

this may take some time need to save up for the bits to go inside 🙂

saab z20net inlet for sale 🙂

1st thing i did was drop a nut down the injector hole when taking the inlet off you can see the gasket markings 🙂

collecting the bits in bags and marking them up

i might take the cover to my powdercoater mate and get it done in black

top clean as a whisle

oil pump and timing cover

nice new genuine gm chains and to think there £280 to buy thats nearly half the cost of this hole engine!

never seen this before there was a tag on the oil jet bolt

after 30mins of faffing trying to find my 15mm socket again the head bolt came out

head off

more shiny stuff

oil cooler and thermostat housing

clean filter

heavy things taken out

all timing gear removed

sump off its huge in comparison to the z22se

heres how i left it for the night

and all the parts bagged and collected on the bench now i can get to it

more some time soon 🙂

so much easier to take apart when its just sat on a pallet
but the air rachet and impact gun made it lite work 🙂

had a mate chris pop over today to come have a look at the new engine hes a z20let lover 🙂
he helped me bag and tag all the parts to the head

each valve got a bag of its own (collets,spring,valve,retainer) all numbers up so they can go back in the same place

tools for the porting work

i've just started on one exhausts port atm

here you can see ive marked the gasket out on the head

still got alot to do lol

Looks like your gonna do a propper job on that, what difference are you expecting from porting the head BHP wise??

no idea but its gonna be more that it with the way they are there like half the size of the inlet ports lol

the Saab thermostat housing doesn't fit onto the F23 gearbox, so just remove the new thermostat and the oblong seal from the side. These can then be used on a z22se thermostat housing.

Oil jet is just a dodgy bolt, rather than something special 😉

You need an extra oilway blank (where the turbo oil feed came from) and the cylinder head also requires a blank for the removed Saab coolant temp sensor, you can use the z22se water pump drain plug (y)

The turbo oil return requires a blanking plug, either a core plug or make one in a lathe from alloy.

The 10 large head bolts are scrap, but the head gasket should be okay

I am currently opening up the exhaust ports on two heads, I will take some pictures as you need to remove quite a bit more material 😃

are they for a z22se engine? do you know the difference in horses roughly?

you answered some of the questions i was going to pm you about lol
was looking at the turbo drain im not at work at the moment so cant get one made up but will when i go back
found the extra hole on the head when i took the air bleed pipe off 🙂 something i just need to get sorted as i go lol
i was going to bin the bolts and fit arp studs there only £88
can the oil cooler still be piped in with the z22se stat housing ?

apart from the gasket shape (keep yours to the z22se exhaust gasket shape) those pictures are very good to use as a guide, but without making a new exhaust manifold flange it's pointless making the ends more square.

ive tried to keep it to the oval shape
before

somewhere in the middle lol

still need to work on the right side and do the valve end

@[deleted] working from your pic ive not gone that big on the hole its about 1-1.5 mm bigger than the z22se gasket
