2_2cd Hi... any help would be great. My 2002 2.2 vectra has started to cut out on a journey. It will crank but not restart until leaving it for 5 mins. At this point it starts but the engine light is now on and stays on. If left over night the engine light is off till it breaks down again. I have tryed a battery reset but still the same. My local garage cannot book me in till next week and i need the car. Any ideas, thanks..
Andy firstly hello and welcome to the site 😃 i'm sure Mark (Z22) had a similar problem on one of his cars and ended up buying a new ecu.
Matt That does sound exactly like the issue Mark was having. There is a thread on here somewhere with all the details in it.
2_2cd thanks for the replys. have had a good look at all the posts under "ecu" at least when i finally get the ecu read with a machine for a fault code i wont be quite in the dark as before. dont wont some spoty little oik at the garage ripping me off. hopefully it will be some thing like a sensor rather than an ecu. thanks and will keep this post updated when i know.
dodger this sounds very much to me like an EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirclation) Valve problem, I had one faulty, idle is very lumpy and difficulty starting a hot engine fine when cold, If these are the symptoms then the EGR is the thing to check.
2_2cd car has been into the garage today and the fault codes sre showing faults with the throttle unit. these are adaption issues and the 3 faults are always there. they cleaned out the unit and said it was ok for me to collect. when i got there the car would not start and when it did it ran very badly. they suspect its the ecu and would need further diagnosis. i suspect this is the case and will wait for ther reply tomorrow after doing some further wire tests. will update when i know further.
2_2cd update is that the ecu has failed and a new one has been orderd to cure.. going to feel very light in the pocket.
2_2cd total bill of £650... but seems to be ok now. only got the car back yesterday(monday afternoon) and have only done about 20 miles. not cutting out and seems all a ok. hope nothing else goes wrong this month.
2_2cd still car seems to be ok. not any better than it was before but useable now. hard being without ya car for a week. they gave no explination for it failing but said they had done a few. dont think its uncommon for them to go so watch out you could be next. ( hope not)
JasGriff If a garage said mine had gone I would be marking the unit and all sorts to make sure they had actually changed it. Then when they did change it I would ask for it back. Might just be me but they never opt to change this or that its always the ECU puzzle..
Andy yeah very true Daz. there was one on ebay last week, i meant to bid on it at the end but forgot about it. think it went for £75 in the end. oh and a throttle body went for 99p.
