kenwood headunit.

Hi guys. I've just purchased a new Kenwood kdc bt52u headunit.

My only concern is, will this connect straight up to the original wiring or will I need an adaptor? I know I need an adaptor to make the steering wheel controls work again but that's not an issue atm. As far as I was aware it is plug and play?

Oh and I have an astra coupe 2003 with the oe cd500 headunit. Any help would be great thanks 🙂

Should be plug and play if you don't mind the steering wheel controls not working (still less than £9 for a wiring kit to make them work though)

some times the case would be to swap the red and yellow to keep settings on the radio time and so forth
there the wrong way round on vx to the standard iso layout the head unit plug should have bullet connectors on the red and yellow so you can swap them

Yeah, that is what I had to do with my first JVC head unit (y)

Ok guys thanks for the help 🙂 I'm not too clued up on the electrical side of things. It should be delivered tomorrow so will let you know. I've also bought a subwoofer ready to be fitted aswell 🙂

Another question whilst I'm on the subject lol. Where's the best place to run the power for the sub through the fire wall? The only place I can see is a grommet above the accelerator pedal to the right.

There is one on the right hand side of the engine bay that comes out behind the glove box if I remember correctly?

nope 🙂 i never found this one
i used the bung at the accelerator is where i put my 0 gauge

Hmm, I'm just looking for some pictures of my engine bay on the SXI, as I was sure I ran the power cable down the passenger side?

I'm the same as you evocarlos, I was told to run it thru the glove box, so i took the unit out and got a torch to try and see but I could not find one. So looks like the accelerator One it is. Did you take it out and drill or just pop a screwdriver through? For 0 guage I'm assuming you had to drill it?

yeah had to drill it out then used PU adhesive on the cable to bung to make it watertight
only real issue with the 0 gauge was running it down the sill i had to modify the trim supports to fit it in the gap

Just been through all the pictures I have, and I'm sure there is a grommet on the passenger side. I think I used the same one the ECU wires come through.

My power goes down the passenger side, there was a hole and gromit there I believe, would have to investigate further when I go and upgrade the wiring for the new setup when I start.

Saying that, just been given 2 Polk Audio 12"s in box, 1500w mutant mono block amp and a 600w 2/3/4 channel JBL amp...hmm

Well.... I don't think I'm going to go to the extreme of removing my entire dash haha. I can get my hand up to reach the grommet so I will most probably just pop it thru with a screwdriver and get someone to feed it thru from the engine bay! Thanks for the help guys. 🙂 and if I'm still stuck there's always pvs lol.

na just kidding i saw a thread on another forum last night that went there the blend flap in the air box what a muppet bet it made a right noise when he put it on internal
this is how NOT to do it that flap moves lol

only took out the dash to fit climate control 🙂
but i used a big long screw driver from the engine bay side and pushed the bung in then put the cable thru the bung then fed the cable and bung in car to the engine bay it did not have an inline fuse so i could do it that way 🙂
may be different if you have a kit with a fitted fuse (engine bay to car )

Haha I was thinking taking the dash out was a nit ott but if you want the job doing properly! Yeah mines a kit so got an in line fuse about 10" from where it connects to the battery.

Well tonight I fitted the hu. I didn't need any adaptirs apart from the Ariel so will have to go down halfords at the weekend. One otyer issue I've got, after a good 30 mins setting the Bluetooth she screen sound settings etc I turned the ignition off and on again and its reset its self! Not sure if I have wired it up correctly or if Ive been thick and there's a save setting somewere?

Ahh sorry just went back to the top of this thread and read about swapping the ISO connectors over I will give that a try tomorrow

Was just going to suggest that again. Swap the yellow and the red wires around on the back of the HU. Most have bullet connectors to allow you to do this easily.
