snowy Just a question about the kits, I have PM'd Matt but he is away. Are you supposed to get four retaining bolts for the guides or two? If two are you supposed to re use two of the old ones? Which position would you used the new and old bolts? Thanks
pottsey there should be 4 retaining bolts .ive just fitted mine last week and there was 4 in it ,although i didnt use both cogs for the balance shafts as 1 was very stiff so used an old one
pottsey i cant see why not ,its not as though they are like stretch bolts where you can only use them once daz is online send him a pm and ask him
vocky genuine kits have two bolts missing, so you need to use the two best original bolts (the ones with no silver showing on the shoulder section)
snowy This is an FIA kit. Seems daft to supply only half the bolts. But thanks. I will be more careful what I buy in future. When described as a full kit you sort of expect everything to be in it. Thanks for your help
snowy Ok, searched online and the kits should have four bolts http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110801867142 But as long as it is ok to use the old ones I will pick the best ones. Thanks

IDI_AMIN All kits are different some come with all the bolts but not the balance shaft sprockets others come with the sprockets but minus a couple of bolts which is what i purchased.I know what one i would rather have and do have the bolts are reusable anyway
evocarlos snowy said: Sorry but if a kit is advertised as a full kit then it should be just that. but even the fai parts list in the picture states 5 bolts 2 for the tensioner 1 for the guide rail 2 for doing half the other rails i can see what your saying 🙂 be best to pm matt to contact fai to see what's occurring
snowy https://z22se.co.uk/shop/timing-chain-kits/fai-balance-chain-kit This is what I bought. You can see the four bolts I am talking about Also that is item 5, not five bolts
snowy I have pm'd him already. All I was asking is it ok to 're use the bolts. After already having one headbolt shear I am a little paranoid. I don't want to 're fit these chains to have them fail just because I 're used an old bolt.

I don't want to 're fit these chains to have them fail just because I 're used an old bolt. The head bolts are stretch bolts and should not be reused it probably sheared because it was second hand when you think about the torque pressure on a head bolt compared with one of these which are torqued to 10ft lbs there is a major difference to pressure applied to guide rail bolts that is why these bolts are re-usable they are not stretch bolts. Vocky is a z22se expert and he says they are re-usable he would not give out bad advice i don't think. i'm sure others would agree. No need to worry about these bolts they are only holding guide rails in place and do not have the same stress on them as a cylinder head bolts
snowy It was the m8 bolt around the timing cover, not the larger head bolt. I did buy new head bolts, the kit didn't cone with the m8 bolts and I was advised I didn't need to change them
Daz I've had a few different kits, fai and gm ones with various bolts missing. And I do as Vocky has said. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
