turns over, not start

The auto electrician had laptop plugged in and couldn't find any fault with the electrics, immobiliser ok, checked all fuses and relays.
After turning the engine over, he said right away it sounds like the starter motor isn't working like it should, so perhaps IDI AMIN could be right with his suggestion posted earlier in the thread.
To me it sounds like it turning the engine over, but to someone who fixes cars all the time they will know when they hear a bad one.

Is it a tricky job to remove, it looks like there's a bolt that's difficult to get to.
Well the weather is supposed to be fine for the weekend lets hope the forecast is as predicted.

Its not a hard job to remove a couple different size extensions and sockets cant remember if they are 13 or 14mm and remove the wires should take half hour max to remove

I got the starter motor off, took me more than half hour , getting the 2 wires of starter and the sensor plug near the top starter bolt out of the way was bit of a task.
Once the torx bolts were undone the starter came off easy.
I'm not convinced its faulty though, bench tested it and the solenoid throws out the pinion gear and the motor spins it. Unless when its on the car its somehow not turning it over properly, but to me it seems ok , both on and off the car.
Beginning to think it could be the fuel pump I know the relay is ok, and the immobiliser is working correctly.

I had a fuel pressure issue a week or so ago, it was just trickling out of the valve on the fuel rail and the car just would not start. The solution was to prime the pump 4 or 5 times (switch ignition on for 10 seconds but <u>don't</u> try and turn engine over x 5). Then I checked the fuel pressure and it squirted out under pressure nicely and the car started.

I like that idea its certainly worth a try, when I get chance later today.

when the fuel system is primed on ignition the fuel will pressurise to around 3 bar, by putting a nail or screwdriver in the valve on the rail the fuel will squirt out and go everywhere

take the plugs out and start the engine over, if you see fuel haze out the holes you know you got pressure

personally work your way back from the fuel rail looking for blockages

My plugs are wet with fuel, getting power to plugs (attached strobe light to top of a plug and one peg on coil pack rail)
Fitted new coil pack, new spark plugs, new starter motor, new battery in keyfob.
Still car engine just turns over and over without starting.

Phoning scrap man (after I taken off new starter motor, and syphon petrol out)

My plugs were wet with fuel but without adequate fuel pressure it just wouldn't fackin start :mad:

Have you tried clamping the return hose to see if it will start that way?

try this

take out spark plugs

put some fuel inside each cylinder hole where your plugs suppose to be

make sure plugs are dry by hovering em over a gas stove

chuck em back in quickly and the car if it has compression will fire up but cut out again

if it is not fuel and spark have you made sure the throttle body operates as it should ?

Do you mean the butterfly valve just at the end of the air intake pipe?
How can i make the throttle body move under its own power without using finger prodding 🙂

I am sure I must have missed something somewhere when I took cam cover off, I mean all was ok before that.
fuel rail unbolted, undone electric plug , egr plug off, cam cover earth off, coil pack plug off, removed coil pack rail( for want of better description), battery earth lead off.

all of the above back on again.

The fuel return pipe is what I meant. There is a chance the fuel pressure regulator is not working, hence no fuel pressure.

Or just buy a can of easy start and squirt it into the air intake while starting the car. If it fire while you are using the easy start you do have a fueling issue.

Laughing gas as my dad used to call it lol, started many an old banger with that stuff.

So fuel or easy start in the plug holes or intake will find out if I have a fuel pump problem or some fuel delivery issues.

Yes. So if you try easy start and the car fires you have a fueling issue.

If it doesn't fire you may have a spark or compression issue.

Either that or your mechanical/electrical issue.

Was going to check my compression this weekend, as this seemed to be the only other avenue to go down, getting fuel, getting spark, AM I getting any compression.
Today answered my question, whilst waiting for a friend to lend me his compression guage, I decided to retrace my steps and remove the cam cover again, just incase I had missed something,
and to my horror I found the problem, looks like the chain has jumped a tooth or more🙁 a couple of cam followers where sitting where they shouldn't.
That would explain the noisy tappets if the chain jumped and perhaps bent some valves, so no need for compression tester now🙁

Did you get it going? Had a similar problem before, changed the crank shaft angle sensor and that sorted it.
