noise from engine help please ?

Listen to the sound on the clip. Is it possible that the noise comes just from the cracked exhaust manifold, or do you think that it also can be a loose chain?

The engine rattles at cold-starts for a few seconds, after start it's clean. When the engine gets warm it starts to rattle again.

think the cracked manifold sounds like hissing i've never had one so can say on that one

there is a lot of sag in that chain
are the guide rails intact ?

Thats how my chain looked before i put new chain kit on.Maybe your chain is stretched and worn if you never replaced that.
tensioner is activated by pressing against hard surface before installing

thought it had to activated after installation to pull up the slack

edit:- yep just read it does if its removed then it needs resetting then activating again once reinstalled

the sprockets do look worn to maybe a full chain kit replacement would be best

It can be done both ways before and after installation the jedi master recommends doing it before putting it in.
Once its in you need to press against the rail to activate .but before when pressed against surface you know for sure it is ready you will feel the pressure on it .it will not move the same way it does before you activate it

With the mileage that is on car the wise thing to do would be complete chain kit especially when you compare the price of a tensioner on its own with the price of an FAI chain kit a difference of 50 quid.I was nearly only buying the tensioner myself before i came to my senses

The best way to do it is to remove the tensioner it takes two minutes to remove. But if you do not remove the tensioner then you find a bar that will fit down between the head and chain press against the guide rail at exactly where the tensioner meets the guide rail
