Non starter / chain changed diagnostics help please

may seem a silly question ,but have you unplugged the ecu for any reason

Not a silly question but yes I did undo both plugs because I thought it might be easier to manoeuvre the loom at the time. Is there something I've missed?

unplug them and check that none off the pins have been bent when you plugged them back in .i had this when i did my s/c conversion i bent a pin and it wouldnt start ,straigthened it up and it started

Torch out, plugs off. That's a no :grumpy:

1: All four spark plugs emitting a spark
2: Spark plug tips are getting fuel
3: Hand cranked the engine with the plugs out to make sure no issues with timing chain - same as before cranks nice n easy with standard a 1/2" ratchet
4: Battery swap made no difference
5: Throttle butterfly is not sticking
6: Ecu pins all o.k.

Did you take any pics when you had it stripped?... and when you fitted the new chain?...

If you have fuel, and spark it shud fire.
I'm leaning towards timing 180 out too...

I followed the Total Vauxhall timing chain how2 pdf and I lined up the cam lobes 10 to 2. There's no mention of crank and timing case marks.

So I'm guessing because I didn't line up the mark on crank to the mark on the timing cover I've got it upside down or 180 degrees out? Is that what you mean Daz?

yeah the tv guide dont say to put it at tdc @ the pully before you start

Is it possible to have the timing out by 180 degrees though?

I would have thought the timing marks on the chain wouldn't line up unless the engine was at TDC

i just looked at the tv guide as i have it on the pc i did not mean it would cause damage was just stating that it dont say to line up the mark on the lower pully to the block mark
once thats done you wip the rocker cover off and look at the cam lobes over cylinder #4 (gear box end) and make sure there facing inwards

Well I hope it causes zero damage as I said previously I had all the marks spot on and the engine easily cranks by hand.

which cam lobes did you set at 10 and 2 ?

you should set number 4 piston, if you set the ones nearest the chains then the timing is 180 out.

If the timing etc is correct try a new set of plugs. Although there is no proven therory for it once plugs get too wet they don't work under load.

I had this and I went through every thing until I fitted a new set of spark plugs and it fired first time.

I had a similar problem after doing my rebuild.
Turned out the fuel pressure regulator had failed.
You get fuel at the plugs but not enough pressure.
Try clamping your fuel return pipe with a brake pipe hose clamp or carefully with molegrips and cardboard then try and start the car. If it runs then it means your pressure regulator is goosed.

Might end up doing that Snowy, in the meantime I've rechecked the timing. Can someone check the pics and vid and give it all the thumbs up please?

To add: The engine oil only reaches the minimum mark on the dipstick but the car is jacked up at the front drivers side, will this have an effect?

Also I've only driven the car 4 times since buying it and it wasn't the best at cold starting but seemed to me to drive o.k. when warm though. I've not driven it above 3500 rpm yet though.
