head gasket

I got a mobile mechanic out today and he did a engine compression test and he said i need a new head gasket because he one and two have no compression and three has 40 psi and four has 140 psi so does anyone no how much it will cost to get it replaced and does anyone no a good garage that will do it in the west midlands

Head Gaskets rarely go on these without a good reason for it. Have you got oil mixing with water or white smoke? Check your water pump and thermostat too.
Low compression could be down to numerous things.
Piston Rings
Burnt out valves.
Did he do a wet test and a dry test?

hi he did do a wet and dry test but he did not tell me if there was any difference he just told me i need the head gasket changing i didnt notice any smoke but one of the spark plugs had water and oil on it

if one and two had no compression the car would not start

your car was idling in that video you posted up

the car dont start it broke down the other day and i aint put any video on here

sounds like the spark plug has been overtightened ,hence cracking head around the water jacket,quite a common thing on the z22se which is then mistaken for the hg failure

I would try take the head off yourself and make a decision from there

it is rare for this engine to have a HG problem

is there any gunk in the throttle body and inlet manifold, are the spark plugs showing any damage

the chain could of jumped and bent some valves for example

there is a little bit of gunk in the throttle body and in the pipe from air box to throttle body and there was water and oil on one of the spark plugs and the other spark plugs are black and i could not take the head off because all i can do is change the oil lol

so does that mean i mite need a new head if i do how much do they go for

Yep you would need a new head. You can get them from about £75 Used.
I would fit new valve stem seals on any head before fitting.
It's also worth doing the piston rings and chain while the head is off.

do you no how much it would cost to get someone to do all that because i aint got a clue what to do

get another mechanic and then get the cam timing checked, sounds like the standard bent valves after the chain has jumped

Head gasket failure is extremely rare on the z22se, unless you have run the engine with no coolant it simply will not fail.

do you think it mite be cheaper to get a another engine instead of getting this one repaired as you can get a engine with low miles for around £400 of ebay

i know where theres 3 heads but dont know what they cost with out going up and asking

hi does this place where the heads are have a number so i can phone them to get a price

its a scrap yard up the road from me and there in cars atm
i plan to go up to get some trim for my car so i can ask when im there if you like ?
