Least you have found out what it is, sure you will get it sorted in next few weeks. Doing smaller service jobs are fine but if you are tight on space i find easier going to a local, as long as it is reasonable.

I can do em in 20 mins.

After the wheel is of its caliper and bracket off.

2 x strut bolts or bottom ball joint bolt out

Drive shaft nut off and remove from hub

Disconnect abs sensor

3 bolts on rear of hub for bearing and knock out

Then refit

Thanks Daz, I'll question the labour time (although I'm going off the price of a part from eBay that @[deleted] found). Either way, it's going to cost me £250 all in.

that was just the 1st one i found matt see what price you can find

Well I'm a little worried now. I've just driven to VX to pick some parts up, and the car is making a right noise when in 5th and 6th gear. The whine is there in all gears, but it's really loud when you apply the throttle in 5th and 6th. Doesn't make the extra noise when in 4th.

I'm beginning to think it's either the gearbox of the diff 🙁

Yes, it's still making a noise in neutral, but it's also making a really loud whine in 5th and 6th as well now.

sounds like wheel bearing, they are suppose to get worse over time, matter of weeks / months

I've had someone have a look at it today, and the noise it's making in 5th and 6th is exactly like the sound they make when the bearings in the box go. Only makes the really loud noise when on the accelerator in 5th and 6th.

My gearbox is snagged in my vxr matt . Doesn't whine but it clunks like duck when u take up the drive
