Z22yh Oil Filter Housing Removal Tips Pls.......

I am going to do my first service on my Z22YH. I bought a draper 32mm oil filter housing socket to remove the filter with but there is not enough clearance for me to get my ratchet and socket onto the housing nut.

Any tips?

What do you guys use for this job?

I use a knuckle joint between the socket and the extension bar. It can't be any worse for clearance on your car than it is on mine.

same here put the Universal joint on the socket just try and keep the socket level and it can go suqwiff

Thanx for the tips guys, I have bought a breaker bar with a swivel joint and I can now just get the socket onto the filter housing.

The 32mm nut on the oil filter housing is only 11mm deep but the socket is 18mm deep so I am also going to mill the socket down by about 5mm in the workshop at work tomorrow, this should then give me plenty of room.

aye all you need to do is loosen then use your hand to remove, also tighten up using your hand and only very slightly tighten up, they are prone to cracking and any decent seal will not require this to be torqued up, I always rub up against the inlet manifold

My Z22YH Vec passed her MOT this week 🙂.

So today I set about treating her to new filters and oil.

I used a PELA 6000 vacuum pump to suck out the old oil, it was an easy task, just run the engine up-to operating temp and put the syphon tube down the dipstick tube and start sucking! The pump removed the full 5 litres out of the sump with no mess.

Now time to fit the new genuine oil and air filters purchased from the site shop.

In with the new oil and the job is done.

I cheated with the fuel filter, I had it replaced by the Vx dealer who did the MOT for me, I just didn't fancy messing about with the fuel lines and those fragile little clips.

Service complete :happy:.

I've always been dubious about the extraction pumps, as I'd be worried it would leave in the crap at the bottom of the sump. I'd rather have oil down my arms and all down my drive :oops: knowing it's been fully emptied.

We use an extraction pump in work sometimes, however only for the likes of smart cars where there is no sump plug... or if a customer has overfilled there oil and just needs a little removed...

i never even thought you could remove the oil that way it is super easy to drop the sump plug 🙂

nice work tho looks like all the oil filters end up sucked in

I used to think that was the case, however it where the cap is tightnened down and twists the filter slightly...

I was impressed with the ease of use of the extraction pump, it definitely removed all of the old oil and no oil spillage on the drive!

id rather do this as well to be honest for the same reason. the amount of crap that can come out of the sump when drained if the car hasnt been looked after.

Hi I have the same engine, I was hoping it would be around 4.5 litres I have just ordered 5ltrs does that mean I will have to order another ltr for topping up?

Read somewhere on here its actually 4.75 not 5 as stated is the book.

I think its 5L on the Direct TBH, put 4.5L in, run it to operating temp and turn her off, after 5 mins take a dipstick reading, this is the correct way to get the reading and adjust from there. The min to max on the dipstick is 1L so you'll be able add the correct amount without worry of overfill.

I believe thats correct on the SE mate but the YH had a different head. On the Vec C its always been 4.75 although Haynes still says 5L.
