evocarlos just took the front wheel off to get the tire sorted :s not happy looks like its been there some time £30 to get it fixed or £349 for 4 new ones off the bay
evocarlos some test on a scrap wheel tests on my wheel with one of the dings the 2 dots indicate where the crack is heres welded i dug in to the crack the heated it and welded over the v-groove starting to clean it up then on to the inside
Sjdickso As Matt said not good at all, but can I say from finding the defect to sorting yourself is impressive I certainly wouldn't have the balls to do anything like that. Will there be a weakness in the wheel now?
evocarlos im gona hit it with a big hammer both sides of where the crack was when im done and get it on vid so we will find out 🙂 welding alloy with mig is just a pain in the ass but not impossible im hoping once the inside is done it will be just as strong as it once was the pain is setting up the welder running 2x the speed wire feed (than steel wire) and pure argon gas and it does put more material on the top that has to be ground off tig would be a much better option but i dont have 1k lying about to buy one lol what i mean to say is i dont know but we will find out 🙂 it is repaired welding is welding tig or mig its still replacing the broken metal it has also been heated so there's less stress on that area while cooling
Daz I've done a bit of ally welding with a mig in the past... and from experaince the ally has to be cleaner than clean to get a decent weld on there... even the slighest bit of shit still on there and it will fuck the weld up..

Matt That black over silver looks really nice. Mine are silver over black, and does look pretty similar to the above picture.

Sjdickso The metal flakes may look really good, although I would do a test first too much flake can make items look cheap. Good old wet sanding lol
evocarlos projects is under delay work has just upped my work load so im working an extra hour a day and working Friday all overtime so im liking the extra money its leaving me to tired to get the little bits done of an evening hoping to get the pcbs made for the extra projects this weekend ready for testing and maybe get some new hubs for the rear so the wheel bearings are new i did order some new rear spring mount/bump stops from vx there expensive but can only get them from vx i did manage to play with the stereo some and set it all back up after disconnecting the battery here's the charging voltage with the engine running and the volume up to 22/35 and here's the current draw of just the sub amp during a drop in bass lol
evocarlos opps new pollen filter new rear spring/bump stops new clips for handbrake cables new £8 touch up spray gun boost to keep me awake new soft pad for the DA and sanding disks and masking tape krust for stone chip on me bonnet more argon gas just in case i run out new mig welder liner (plastic) currently running steel rain-x megs ultimate compound megs wash mitt megs tire sponge megs water magnet 3 x megs microfiber cloths and a bag to put it in 🙂
Matt Nice! The only thing out of that lot that I'd personally not use is the drying towel. I found the one I had induced quite a lot of swirls back into the paint after a few uses.
