Just an update on this one; Had a look a Glenns tensioner & under the cam cover......result is oil in desperate need of changing! head does not have any carbon deposits with a very little residue buildup in the far right corner. IMO engine is in good condition BUT the oil in the tensioner was black. reset the tensioner and put back together so with a good engine flush & oil change all should be ok for a while yet.
