Rebooted the NAS this afternoon to move some cables around, and give the case a clean. I'm still really impressed with it for the price I paid for it. It's even better now most of my network is gigabit and can make the most of the speed transfer.

My whole network is dog slow and its gigabit! Got a DNS-320 nas, Netgear WNDR4500 tried cat 5 and cat 6 cabling. 1GB movie copies at 20mbps fastest has been 25. I have to wait for a image to load from nas on a laptop next to the router too and it has to buffer small file movies, every 5 secs!

TBH that's all I'm seeing at the minute when copying large video files to and from the NAS. _23MB/s is much better than the 5MB/s I was getting using the PowerLine adapters.

Ah rite, fair enough.

Just at work, another network I setup, I get speeds in excess of 60mbps transferring files and movies from workstations to the server and thats using 2 cheap gigabit hubs and cat 5e cable along with the BT Home Hub3!

Hmm. I'm just playing with my set up now, and enabling 9K jumbo frames on both ends to see what happens.

Seeing upto 40MB/s now with 9k jumbo frames on each end.

Hmm, with Jumbo frames on, I can't talk to the NAS while sat downstairs.

Connection goes Laptop --> Switch --> Router --> Switch --> NAS

I have to disable jumbo frames on the Laptop NIC to make it work again.

If I go upstairs, where it's Laptop --> Switch --> NAS it all works fine with a nice speed increase.

Wonder if the router can't do Jumbo frames as both the switches support them.

Since I've put the WNDR4500 here I cannot access the NAS from the TV. The DIR-615 I was using did :-/

I'll swap the cable over tomorrow, as I need to swap either the Xbox or PS3 from the switch direct to the router, as I don't have enough ports to connect the switch upstairs to the one downstairs

Yea UPNP is on,

The old router, the Dlink Dir 615, I had DD-Wrt running on it and I had it setup beautifully, however I wanted gigabit network speeds to go with my other gigabit devices (NAS, TV, Mac, Switch, Laptop when using LAN) I could put DD-wrt on my new wndr4500 but its buggy and still in development.

At the moment I can not see any improvement with the gigabit.

As said previously, the network ive setup at work, is brilliant.

All mine is coming out and getting re-cabled in the next couple of weeks anyway.

I think mine is more hardware related than cable related. The DNS-320 doesn't get very good write ups anyway but I got it cheap cheap
