90K. Chain didnt snap, but the tensioner failed/seized.

Same effect. Pistons met valves. 16 new valves, 8 guides, two new chains etc. All good gain 10K miles later.

What is the life expectancy of the timing chain? What are the service intervals? I'm on 46k on original chain, 2003 coupe

42k miles mine snapped i bought it when it was on 84k miles and was rattling then ,so its now on its 3rd chain ,but when i got the chain done at 84k miles the tensioner seized after 22k miles,but was lucky no damage was done .
so with vx saying that they should last 100k ,hhhhmmmmmmm dont think i'd risk it i'll be treating mine the same as a belt and getting changed after 40k.
i do oil changes every 6 month regardless of miles though

Mines on original chain and still quiet. Regular oil changes may have served this chain well?

yeah mine gets an oil change regularly, prevention is better than the cure and all that jazz...

i have an astra 2.2 coupe, mine snapped jus after around 100k, rattled for around 6months, so i got warning, but didnt realise that the rattle meant chain needed 2 be changed, needed 12 new valves plus guides!! i change oil n filter every 3 months!

ive got a zafira z22yh 2006 with full service and its rattling really bad. The mileage is only 24000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2003 Astra G SRi z22se. FSH. 53,000 Miles. Chain Rattling.

95,000 miles and no problems. Changed both chains as a precaution.... And dropped in cams at the same time...

The chain kits have been adjusted by Vauxhall quite a few times. I think last time I spoke to VX about what had been changed, there had been something like 16 revisions!

Main difference is the larger oil nozzle and the Z20NET tensioner being used. Chain guides have also been changes to fit the square end on the Z20NET tensioner.

There's plenty of Z22YH going at around 40k on the Vectra forum, all of them being the tensioner. VX have actually coughed up on a couple, well 70% costs.

mine snapped as i was undoing the crank pulley bolt when replacing it at 76k

Mine snapped at 66K back in 2007. It is an 02 vectra B estate sri150. I got vauxhall to pay for the repair.

It is now done 128K. Should I be thinking about getting the cam chain changed again?

Mones coming up to 65k and 9 year old Vec C... Had cover of last night and everything's spot on and all the tensioners keeping it tight... I'm prob going to just keep running the same chain for the life I have the car, if it goes I'll drop in the NET 🙂

Hi, just brought a zafira cheap with snapped chain. Bolt that holds chain guide in head behind the allen key plug became loose and vibrated out causing chain to snap. Bent 6 inlet valves, 4 exhaust valves and four valve guides cracked. Mileage was 72,465.

I've just bought a 2004 Astra SRi 2.2 with 95k. All seems to be ok and chain sounds quiet but after reading this I think I'll be changing them sooner rather than later.
