Just curious what the average engine mileage is for snapped cam chains 😃

Approxiately at the 100,000 miles mark. Mine had the newer style chain kit on but at 77,000 i wanted peace of mind and got it changed. I bought the chains from the shop on this website and are the cheapest you'll find. :thumbup:

I have a late 02 Zafira that had its chain snap at 110k miles.

I got 143,000 miles out of the original chain before deciding the rattling was getting worse! Had no idea they snapped til I found this forum, luckily I changed it before it destroyed itself

117k on my astra coupe & the zafira had slightly noisy chain at 108k so that got changed both old style chains & tensioners etc

104k ish is when mine started rattling.Then another 2 miles on that driving it home.Didn't snap though,caught it just in time.

Tensioner had given up and was jammed.

Guides and oil jet were tip top though.

i bought a 2001 convertible with a snapped chain at 62k miles,the last owner did not service the car in the 3 years she owned the car and the oil jet was blocked

Would anyone care to explain why GM decided that this engine should be chain driven rather than belt driven? dunno..

Mine was going to snap very soon (around 59,000) but got it fixed by Daz in the nick of time I think!

chain drive is actualy better if its reliable!
direct drive even better!

also its a shared engine with saab and i believe they wont run belts.

150,000 on a 2002 Astra convertible....I had her since new....Vauxhall never sent ME a recall notice! Put another second hand engine in and 2 weeks later the big ends went....well, not much you can say...

I hope mine will never snap.. I have 2004 Z22SE so should be without fault + I change oil and filter every 6 months / 5k miles (Motul 8100 5W40 oil + GM oil filter at the moment, changed 2 weeks ago). Mileage 48k, bought it with 41k miles 10 months ago and I've changed oil twice already.
