Lost Power Steering

I have lost the power steering on my Mk5 Astra Sri Turbo notsure.gif . My girlfriend took the car to work and then to her mams, parked it up outside the house for me to put on the drive. I came out side, opened the doors and started her up but no power steering. I have no lights on the dash, fan belt is still ok. I have power steering fluid in the bottle. What can the fault be? Chech that the car is charging mark... as it runs from the alternator, no charging = no power steering, and it may not put the batt light on either... put volt meter across batt terminal , shud be aprrox 14.5 with the engine running...

It is electronic I think Mike, I have no lights showing up notsure.gif . I don't have a meter Daz lol, I should have one by now :roll:

Tis electric like the mk4's mike.....no charging = no steering, and may not have batt light on either....

How can I tell if it's charging Daz? I still have lights, power in the car

Volt meter across battery(multimeter) and check the output....

Just found a tester / volt meter but can't find the ends lol

yeh check alternator

powers up the steering

if alternator is faulty the power steering is switched off

is the battery light on or is it working on ignition ?

just do a simple battery test m8 - should be around 11.8 volts or more

When the car is running it needs to be over 13 volts to kick the power steering in ...

Right found one end of the tester, just looking for the other side lol

I don't use these devices so what setting do I need to put it on to check my battery? I will stick a bit of wire in the other slot if I can't find the other end to do the test. And what slot should the red plug be in lol Cheers

turn the knob to the left 3 times to 20 dcv, and out the red lead in the slot one down and the black in the bottom one...
